Show 4 Biocese of Denver ; I CITY OF DENVER. f r Organization of Men's Sodality at : Logan Avenue Chapel. ' ' i CSperial Correspondence.) ; On Sunday evening at. Logan Avenue chapel. Rev. Cornelius O'Farrell made i , a vigorous appeal lo the young men of i the cathedral parish to bring them to- f gether ior the purpose of organizing a ' young men's sodality. He did not over- look the fact that there are numerous ' i societies for Catholic young men al-J ; ready in existence, but he remarked! that these were beyond the reach of , : many boys, for various reasons, and ! ; 1 that the new organization would be 1. open to he:n all. In some, he said, the I i fees or monthly dues were too large, and many were unable to pay; and, ;. ; furthermore, he mentioned that al- ' ' though these association? have in them a rt-liglous element they die distinctly social. The new society will have no J social features, and its prime object will be to draw young men together. no matter lo what claps, t-oeially. they ; - might belong, or what their means may be. Those of slender income will be ! J given quite as hearty a welcome as , j the affluent young man, and the society soci-ety will tend to establish a public spirit ! among them. This will make them I rround to be known a? Catholics. ; It is Father O'Farrell's hope that the association will become of such an in- ; teresting character that it will keep : ' young men away from bad company where the Holy Name is instantly proianea anu w nere me jaiiguafct- ia i .! highly imjnoral and blasphemous?. The ' i priest requested that each family in ' , the cathedral parish will send a book ; fnr'the purpose of building up a library. I They are to be of a sensible and in- . f tPifstirig character, and the contribu- 1 tors will use their own discretion in s making a choice. This will form the i J nucleus of a library for the new asso- i iatfon, which it is hoped will in time i become one of the most extensive of I anv of the sodalities in the city. ' i If Father O'Farrell if successful in i 1 j his undertaking the people of the ca- i 1 thedral parish will enjoy a most edify- ' ' ing sight once a month when this body j of young men assembles to receive their Holy Communion. All of the appli- ! cants for membership are manifesting ; : i great interest in the proposed or--! '! ganization, and it is expected that more j than fifty will be received at the in- itial regular meeting, which take place I on Thursday evening, Jan. 21. Bishop X. C. Matz. who is delighted with the : ; prospects for a new sodality, has of- 1 , fered the use of the parish hall at (Eighteenth and Champa streets for the ; regular meetings. ' At St. Mary's church, one" morning last week, Joseph Keller, one of the leading business men of Bessemer, and Miss Kate Grahek were united in the holy bonds of wedlock, Rev. Father Zupan Curil officiating. The church was crowded with the friends of the contracting parties, and the' wedding was one of the most notable that has ever occurred in the history of the parish. , In the evening the friends of the happy hap-py couple gathered at Russ hall in the Grove and celebrated the marriage of I two of the most popular of the young I people of the Austrian coloryr, in the . good old country manner. An excellent orchestra" was in attendance and during dur-ing the evening discoursed sweet music to guide the steps of the d.ncers who were upon the floor during the entire evening. Long tables, fairly groaning under their weight of delicacies, lined one sid? of the big room, and the guests of the evening were regaled with , the choicest of viands. '. ' ! The 'groom is connected with the Ger- j sick establishment on. Northern avenue, while the bride is the daughter of Mat J Grahek. one of the leading merchantg j of Bessemer. . Mr. and Mrs. Keller will take up their residence on South Santa Fe avenue. ' v - ' |
