Show -4- 4-4-4- 4 I MONTROSE : (Correspondence Intermountain CathoHc.) Hermosa. Colo., Sept. 11. Not having hav-ing contributed any items to your pa- j per for some time, you may have in-f in-f erred that T had departed for the Paris ezhibition, but such is not the ' case although I shall avail myself of I the first free tictfet offered. I have been absent from Montrose all sum- j mer, rusticating among the mountains , and enjoying the beauties of Animas : valley. Thinking you might like a j description of the same. I venture to I portray as best I can the picturesque ! scenery and other advantages of this j Garden of Eden. It is situated in a ro-I ro-I cess in the mountains about fifteen miles in length, containing some of the I most fertile soil on the globe, where all I kinds of grain is raised and hay in abundance, which command the high- est market price. The Animas river I runs through the valley contributing an I abundance of water to supply the ; farmers. Judeing from the heavily, laden trees with lucious fruit of all ! kinds, not to mention small fruit of j which there is no scarcity, I think if ! the specimens of horticulture from this ' valley were taken to Paris and placed on exhibition, they certainly, would take the premium. As a health resort this valley ex-cells, ex-cells, as there are two locations of hot springs, not five miles apart, where cne can wash awar the rheumatism and all other ills that flesh is heir to. besides learning to swim, which should be included among accomplishments. I j have been trying to learn, as I antici pate a trip across the briney. and ' might be capsized. Trimble snrines Is ! noted far and near for its healthful j facilities, its fine ho'el in connection with bath accommodations. and Pinkerton has all the virtues of the former, and the advantage in regard to expenditures as baths ar free. Pinkerton could be made a delightful report as the location is most desirabte, and has also soda springs on the grounds, said to contain medicinal qualities. The Denver & Rio Grande train winds its way through the valley, around and over the mountains to Sil-verton, Sil-verton, a most, wondrous sight to behold. be-hold. I think the scenery, when taken at its flood, could not be surpassed by Switzerland. DOSIA GRAY. |
