It has its source in the Greek theaf There it meant "the one under a mask." Then it was applied to the ethi or religious fields. There it identified those who were "pretenders" Today it is generally used to describe any person or movement that inconsistent in living what they profess. It applies to those who do t "practice what they preach." Consider the youth counter-cultur- e which justifies itself on the the "hypocricy" of the adults. Yet, it is shot wl inconsistency. Howard lived with his family at 321 Side St., Louisville, Ky., when he entered the Armed Forces. Sgt. Howard's family no longer lives at that address. In fact, the house has been torn down and a parking lot has Wen built on the spot. Sgt. Howard, however, has not established a new legal residence anywhere and he intends to return to Louisville when he leaves the service. During the time Sgt, Howard is in the Armed Forces, his legal residence is 321 Side St., Louisville, Ky. If you still claim the legal residence you had when you entered the Armd Forces, then all you have to do, in order to vote, is to find out what your State's voting laws require for absentee mail balloting. Your unit voting counselor should have a copy of Voting Information 1872, where you can find this information. Of course, you may change your legal residence while you are in the Armed Forces. You may establish a new legal residence (1) by living in a particular place and (2) by intending Re-ttul- ts bus, Ga. You will note that Col, Smith, after establishing a new legal residence in Georgia, was reassigned and had to move to Virginia. However, he maintained his Georgia address as his home. This is important. Otherwise, he might have problems in voting. In a like case, you should consult with local voting officials to see what you have to do to keep your right to vote should you be reassigned and have to move away. residence is also important to you in keeping your personal affairs in order. IVfore changing your legal residence, you should consult with your Iegal Assistance Officer to find out what impact a change will have on such things as your automobile registration and your payment of personal property Legal State income taxes and on your eefate in evert you should ami die while in the pervk-e- . - 1972, and employees should file new exemption certificates as soon as possible. The changes in withholding reflect the increases in the standard deduction and in the personal exemption provided by the 1971 Act, and are designed to eliminate the major causes of underwithholding many taxpayers experienced in 1971. The withholding tax rates are adjusted so that single employees earning up to $25,000 a year and married employees, whose spouses are not employed, with earnings up to $31,000 a year can generally expect to have their full tax withheld. The new law also introduces "special withholding allowance" for one-jo- b individuals and families and liberalizes the provisions governing additional withholding allowances for taxpayers who itemize their deductions (for charities, taxes, etc.). Col. Smith is now assigned to the Pentagon and lives in Virginia. Result: Col. Smith's legal residence is 7319 River St., Colum- tax-paye- rs very much establishment! Consider the recent news release that 10 of the major Protestant denominations - representing the liberal wing of protestantism - hold huge investments in the munitions industry. These very churches were those who were most vocal in the movement - who encouraged draft evasion who now lobby for amnesty to those who fled this country rather than serve in the Armed Forces. Consider the Women's Lib movement which insists on equality for women and men. Yet, many of their disciples still expect to have doors opened, seats on a crowded bus, and all of the other courtesies extended to a lady by a gentleman. Consider the marchers who are more violent than all others in their destruction of property - both private and public. Consider these and the many others: the ecology nut who wants to clean up the atmosphere but fails to practice good health hygiene habits, movement who clamours about the 40,000 Americans and the anti-wa- r killed in Vietnam since 1962 but could not care less about that number who are killed annually on American highways. What our society and our nations need now is some consistency in our movements, our churches; our people. "Consistency, thou art a rare e sary reductions in their pay. Claim all of the withholding exemptions to which he is entitled for himself, spouse, dependents, etc. Employees who formerly underclaimcd exemptions in order to counterbalance the underwithholding in the withholding system will probably find that this is no longer necessary or desirable. 2. Claim the new "upecial withholding allowance" if single and he does not earn more than or if married, his $25,000; spouse does not work and he has only one job from which he earns not more than $31,000. 3. Claim the "additional withholding allowance" shown in the table on the back of the certificate exemption (Form ) if his itemized deductions are substantially larger than the standard deduction. However, the IRS suggested that all single employees who earn more than $25,000 and married employees who earn more than $31,000, figure out their 1972 tax and withholding' based on expected earnings for the year. Then if their withholding is not sufficient, they can increase it in order to avoid having to maVe paymfr.ta on a declaration of estimated tax. When you are a cigarette, a pipe or a paying attention, however briefly, to which should be given to the alertness from cigar, you detract driving. Minor mishaps in handling a cigarette a speck of ash in your eye, fire in the ash tray, or a cigarette dropped on the seat or carpet can cause a major traffic accident. Besides the smoke that gets in your eyes, the carbon monoxide and the nicotine that gets into your blood impair visual sharpness. In cold weather, most cars lack adequate ventilation; the need for fresh air is even greater when anyone is smoking in the automobile. If the insides of your windshield and windows are coated with residue which cuts down on your visibility a it'sprobably because you, or your passengers, smoke. At night there may be still another hazard the flame from a match or ordinary pocket lighter is momentarily blinding. Using your car's electric lighter will help. Remember you can't give full attention to your driving while you are fumbling for a cigarette, lighting a cigarette or a cigar or a pipe, disposing of the ashes, or extinguishing the butt. You must know your legal residence in order to vote. You have to be a legal resident of a State in order to vote there. Further, you can have only one legal residence at a time and, of course, may vote in only one State in an election. You may retain as your legal residence the address you had when you entered the Armed Forces, even though you no longer maintain a home at that place and even though members of your family no longer live through-and-throug- wage earners should now what Satisfying jobs, with challenge; good living; respect - these are T.
