Show HILL TOP TIMES Page 2 Ya.a Have Deer Head Mounted? Sec Tony When Tony Galloway went hunting deer this season, he not only had visions of venison steak but he was also imagining just how the head and antlers would look when they were mounted and hung in his shop. For, in addition to being a hunter, Galloway is also a taxidermist and so is able to preserve his game to support his hunting stories for years to come. Galloway, a custodian in the instrument branch, has his own taxidermy shop at his home at 154 27th .Street, Ogden. In the 11 years that he has'been preserving subjects of natural history, Galloway estimates he has stuffed well over 400 dear, 300 antelope and hund- Two lumber storage employees, Selby G. Tanner, (left) and W. Grant Nelson each received a cash award of $158.22 for a suggestion they submitted that will save the Air Force an estimated $5,329 yearly. They devised a plan for packaging lumber into uniform bundles so that it could be handled by machinery. Previously, this lumber had been handled piece by piece but is now tied together in paeks and can be moved by fork lifts and other mechanical equipment. The two suggestors are shown stapeling a parts tag onto one of the uniform packs of lumber. (Photo by TSgt. Morck O. Hancock.) In addition to mounting display heads of animals, .Galloway also makes attractive lamps, ash trays, bookends, hat racks and other pieces of craftwork from antlers, horns and small animals. To attractively preserve and mount specimens takes a lot of patience, but is an interesting and fascinating work, says Galloway. First step in preserving an animal is to skin it and allow the hide to dry. The hide is then soaked in a preserving solution. An artificial head it fashioned out of cardboard and plaster of paris and the tanned hide is then sewn on to the model. Artificial eyes and tongue are installed on the subject, horns are polished and mounted, and after a few other necessary and technical jobs, you should come up with a first class display, according to Galloway. Being a taxidermist isn't the only talent Galloway possesses. He is also a musician and able to play almost every instrument but he especially likes the piano and saxaphone. He is also a professional tap dancer. Galloway has played in bands all over the country and has had several of his own that have been featured in clubs in this locality. Being musically inclined just seems to run in the family. Gallon Cab way's uncle is the Calloway, who is his mother's brother. Galloway is one of 16 brothers and sisters who are all entertainers. One of his brothers still plays with the orchestra of Cab Calloway's now starring in New York. But Galloway's story doesn't stop there.
