Show Former Resident Dies at Mayfield Ludvig Ekelof, for twenty years a resident of Gunnison and Mayfield and widely known and respected throughout the valley, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Angus Christiansen of Mayfield, about 8 o'clock Monday morning of this week. Mr. Ekelof had been in 01 health for the past four years, suffering as a result of a fall while at work as a plasterer. It is believed that he sustained sus-tained slight internal injuries which later developed seriously. He underwent under-went an operation a year ago, but got but little relief. Mr. Ekelof was not confined to his bed and on the ' morning of his death he arose at four o'clock and was apparently in his usual health. Shortly after arising aris-ing from his bed he was stricken and soon answered the final summons. At his bedside when the end came was his daughter, Mrs. Angus Christiansen. Chris-tiansen. Ludvig Ekelof was a native of Sweden. He was born at Hilsenborg September 24, 1860. ' When 19 years of age he came to America as a convert con-vert of the Mormon church, and lo-lated lo-lated at Ogden. He followed his vocation vo-cation as a mason and was successful at his business. Two years after coming to the United States Mr. Ekelof sent for his mother and a sister, sis-ter, the only living relatives, and for years the mother was in the care of the son. In 1902 Mr. Ekelof was married to Nora Rosenlund, and to the union two daughters were born. Thirteen years after his marriage Mr. Ekelof lost his wife through death and since that time he has made his home with his daughters. Mr. Ekelof was faithfnl in his belief be-lief and his religion. He too, was known for his kind and gentle dispo-- dispo-- sftiori' and he made friends and kept them. The " surviving daughters are Mrs. William Wolf of Oakland, California, and Mrs. Angus Christiansen of Mayfield. Mrs. Wolf, who had been notified of her father's death, hurried hur-ried to the home and will be present1 at. the funeral, which will be held at the, Mayfield high school auditorium this,' Thursday, afternoon at three o'clock. Interment will be held at the Gunnison City cemetery. |
