Famous Hudson River. The entire length of the Hudson river Is 300 miles. From Troy to the mouth of the river in New York hay, n distance of l."0 miles, the river is tidal, owing to the low grade of its bed, by which the ocean tide Is able to back up. It is this lower tidal navigable portion of the Hudson that Is of so much importance, and. of course, the water is salt. It Is regarded ns really an estuary of the sea. Above Albany and Troy the river is a small itrcain. and to Its source the water is flesh. |
