Show UTAH REPUBLICANS MAKE GLEAN SWEEP EVERY MEMBER OF STATE, LEGISLATIVE AND JUDICIAL TICKET ELECTED. In the Next Legislature Every Member Mem-ber of the House Will Be a Republican, Repub-lican, With Seven Holdover Democrats in the Senate. Salt Lake City. The election in Utah on November 2 resulted in a rare reversal of form, to put it in the terms of one of the defeated candidates. candi-dates. The entire state Republican ticket has been elected. Warren G. Harding will receive the four electoral elec-toral votes from this state, while the next state legislature will contain seven Democrats in the senate, all holdovers, the house being made up exclusively of Republicans. The last state legislature was overwhelmingly Democratic. Eleven Republican senators sena-tors were chosen at the recent election. elec-tion. Charles R. Mabey, fov governor, heads the state ticket in the matter of votes received, running ahead of Harding. Hard-ing. Senator Smoot will again represent repre-sent Utah in the United States senate. E. O. Lealherwood will represent the second district in congress, vlhile Don B. Colton was chosen as the congressional congres-sional representative from the First district. Legislative and judicial tickets of the state showed somewhat more narrow nar-row margins than the balance of the Republican ticket, in some instances, local conditions being regarded as responsible re-sponsible for this condition. Seven Holdover Democrats. There will be seven Democrats in the Utah legislature during the next two years, all of these being members of the senate and holdovers. As against these seven Democrats the Republicans Re-publicans will have eleven members of the upper house who were elected November 2, thus gaining a comfortable comforta-ble working majority. The Democratic senators are George II. Dern and Mrs. Elizabeth Hayward of the Sixth district, dis-trict, J. Will Knight and Edward Southwick of the Seventh district, Orlando Or-lando Bradley of the N:-tth district, U. T. Jones of the Eleveuth district and W. T. Lamph of the Twelfth district. Republican members of the senate are John W. Peters of the First district, dis-trict, Joseph Quinney of the Second district, Rufus Adams of the Third district, dis-trict, Thomas E. McK .y and David Jensen Jen-sen of the Fourth district, William H. Smart of the Fifth district, Mrs. Cles-son Cles-son S. Kinney, Harrison Jenkins and Henry M. Standish of the Sixth district, dis-trict, Perry B. Fuller of the Eighth district and H. C. Tebbs of the Tenth district. House All Republican. Utah, Senator Smoot's county, went Republican on the basis of seven to six. Senator Smoot leading the Repub-ionn Repub-ionn ticket in the county. Weber county returned to the Republican Re-publican fold. The vote was the heaviest heav-iest cast in the history of the county, and is estimated at 12.000, which ia 4000 more than the vote of two years ago' and over 2000 more than four ,'ears ago. |
