Show Grim Reaper Calls Bp. Herbert Beck Bishop Herbert Beck, one of the Jjest known and a valued citizen and church worker in the Gunnison Valley, Val-ley, died at the Salina hospital last Tuesday following an operation for appendicitis. Impressive funeral services were held today for the deceased. de-ceased. Bishop Beck was stricken .several days ago with appendicitis and his case at first was not regarded ;as serious. Complications, however, set in and he was hurried to the hospital hos-pital for an operation, without avail. The deceased was the son of James and Oline Beck of Centerf ield. He was born at Rphraim July 25. 1SS3 and came to Centerfield with his parents par-ents in 1S97. He was married to Miss Blanche Kearns of Gunnison in 1905. His wife died in 190(1, when (heir first child, Levona, was eight days old. At the time of his death Bishop Beck' was a counselor in the Y. M. M. I. A. and was set apart as second counselor in the bishopric in May, 1906 and in 1907 began a two years mission in the Manti Temple. In November, 1909 he was married to Miss May Bardsley. In the year 1918 he became bishop of the Centerfield Cen-terfield ward and has filled the position posi-tion with credit up to the -time of his death. Besides his wife, May Beck, he is survived by his daughter Lavona and Fay Beck, his father, Jens Beck, four brothers, Oswell, Newman, Danniel and Leo; two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Sorenson and Mrs. Winfred Fjeld-sted. Fjeld-sted. Leo Beck and his wife are on a mission in Florida. Mrs. . Clyde Eppeson of Heber City, is visiting in Centerfield with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bardsley. Whooping cough is going the rounds among the young children at Centerfield. Delma, the 9-year-old daughter of Mr. andMrs. O. C. Fredricksen, who nearly cut the end of her thumb off while topping beets, is doing nicely and the injured member will soon be well again. |
