At a meeting of the shareholders of tbs new city canal held last Monday night there seemed to be considerable dissatisfaetion and for a while it looked as though the project would he dropped entirely. The meeting adjourned Deo. 28. until Saturday evening Work on the canal has been stopped until the engineer oan prepare a report and give and estimate on the cost of building the ditch, which will be presented at the next meeting, when it will be decided whether or not to csmplete the ditch. The report showed the imotuji of stock subscribed tob $3,055 .00; cash collected, 1914. 7$; eolleoted iu labor, $1,020.78; outstanding, $1,039,92. Oa mcYioa this report was tabled. The question was brought up by shareholders in the old ditoh as to right of way for streets and ditches through new land which cam under the ditch. They were unwilling to help build the eaoal and then have to buy right of way in order to get water onto their lota . They demanded free right of way for streets and ditches, which was promised by new iaad owners that were present. A committee was appoitned to have an agreement drawn and signed by new landowners giving right of way for streets and ditches. It is beleived by some that considerable work has been thrown away on account of the ditch not being cross sectioned at the time the survey was made, and the committee was authorized to have an engineer do that work and give an estimate of the cost for completing the canal. A committee wss also appointed to solicit new subscriptions. There has been $2,000 spent on the project now and it would not be wise to give it up. Lets get together and build the ditch bow.
