Show ,i ? y - - - The Services Held Feb. 27 for Virginia Ruth Stephens Funeral services were held Feb. 27 in the Green River LDS Church for Virginia Ruth Clark Stephens, 66, who died Feb. 24, 1985 at the Green River Medical Clinic. She was bom April 17, 1918 in Harmell, N.Y. to Frederich and Jennie B. Peas Clark, and married Floyd Rueben Stephens on Sept. 25, 1954 in Harmell. They were widely traveled in the armed forces and retired to Green River after his service as range coordinator for White Sands Missile Range, Green River Division. Mr. Stephens was mayor of Green River, and the Stephens together owned and operated Lees Fountain and Sundries, Economy Hardware and Green River Refrigeration. He died Jan. 2, 1976. A member of the presbyterian Church, she worked as secretary for the Friendship Cruise for many years. A past president of the American Legion Auxiliary for many years, she was also a member of Womens Club and was active with Times-lndependen- Thursday, Feb. 28, 1985 A7 t, Utah gains title to land acres of federal 25,000 Utah received title to more were to uses the American Cancer Society as a fund raiser. The 240 acres clear liked to the state under the University of Utah 1894 grant reduces the acreage remaining to be granted under that act to 1,676.28, although the University is entitled to another 225.49 acres under an 1855 act also. That was the basis for the transfer of 216.60 acres as part of Fridays action. Utah also received title to 24,623.58 acres in Box Elder County west of Great Salt Lake near Lakeside in exchange for 25,961.98 acres in the Wendover Bombing and Gunnery Range and other scattered tracts in Box Elder County that the State gave to BLM in the transaction. This Lakeside exchange involved part of the lands identified by Utah for acquisition by the State under Project Bold, a concept that would blodt up State land holdings rather than have them scattered as the four sections in each township provided by the Statehood Act. Patents for the lands were presented to Governor Norman Bangerter by Roland G. Robison, BLM state director for Utah. She was 71. Mrs. Seely, a homemaker, had lived in Grand Junction since 1958. She was bom Carolyn S. Beebe on June 18, 1913, at Enders Lake, Neb. She spent her childhood in Enders Lake and Green River, Utah, where she was graduated from Green River High School. In Mesa County, she was a member of the Democratic Central Committee, the Jane Jefferson Democratic Womens Club, the Giand Junction Knife and Fork Club, and the Toastmistresses. She was also a member of the first board of directors for the Virginia Neal Blue Womens Resource Center of Grand Junction, now the Resource Center. Other survivors are two daughters, Susan Brown of Boulder, and Frances White of Grand Junction; one son, Geroge J. Seely of Grand Junction; and four grandchildren. One brother, Richard Beebe, preceded her in death. Services were held Feb. 23 at Callahan-EdfaChapel, Grand Junction. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita.
