Show HON. A. C. CLEAVELAND. The nomination of Hon. A. C. Cleveland for Governor by the Republicans of Nevada makes certain that about the hottest gubernatorial fight in the United States will this year be in the "Battle "Bat-tle Born" State. Mr. Cleveland has been a resident resi-dent of Nevada for just forty years. He helped lay the foundations of the State. From the De-ginning De-ginning he has been one of the foremost citizens, in every capacity, of the State. He was for several sev-eral terms a member of the Legislature there, was once before a candidate for Governor, but was beaten through the churning of political parties par-ties because of silver. He is a farmer and stock-raiser, stock-raiser, like his opponent; his farm is about the most valuable one in the State; his stock is so fine that people who visit the place come away declaring de-claring that there is not an animal on the farm that is not a thoroughbred. Mr. Cleveland is one of the bravest, truest and most genial, but at the same time clear-headed men in the West. He knows all the people of his State and their wants. The fight between him and John Sparks for Governor will be a battle royal. So far as the principals are concerned it will be an altogether honorable one, for both are not only true men, but personally they are close friends. The result, whichever way the election turns, will assure to Novada a first-class executive. |
