Show DEMOCRATIC HOPE IN UTAH. Senator Kearns's Declination to Run Again May Win the State. (Washington SpeciaJ to Baltimore Sun.) Domocratic politicians in Washington received with considerable interest the report that Senator Thomas Reams, a Republican and the millionaire silver King of Utah, will not be a candidate for reelection re-election to the Senate under any circumstances, believing that his withdrawal from the race and his announced intention to fight the Mormon apostolic apos-tolic influence in politics will materially aid Democratic Demo-cratic chances In the locality of the Latter-Day Saints. Those who are familiar with the situation in Utah know that there is a determined fight on between Senator Reed Smoot, the Mormon apostle-Senator apostle-Senator who is undergoing senatorial investigation, investiga-tion, and Senator Kearns. Friends of Senator Smoot blame Senator Kearns for the genesis of tho fight being made against Senator Smoot, and Senator Sen-ator Smoot has been opposing the efforts of friends of Senator Kearns to have him become a candidate for re-election. What tho Democrats of Utah desire is alienation of the church and the state in Utah, and an election elec-tion not influenced by Mormons. If the campaign can be fought on purely political grbunds without the church taking sides, it is believed by Democrats Demo-crats that Utah can be swung into the Democratic column for Parker and Davis in November, and that Idaho can be similarly depended upon. Senator Sen-ator Kearns has a strong Gentile following, and his announced determination to fight the Mormon Influence In-fluence will undoubtedly have a marked influence upon the Republican vote of tho State.
