Show HOW TO START IT. The new year opens filled with promises of prosperity to Utah and to Salt Lake City especially. That means that the opportunities are here, the signs are so propitious, that any other city under the same signs would roar, within three months, like a young earthquake. So will Salt Lake if the people will use their best efforts to make it. They must use their means, their best energies, their united work if they would call others here to help them take up and carry on the work. The men who have spare money should invest it in lots and improvements; where there is something too big for single individuals to undertake un-dertake alone there should be a combine of capital; capi-tal; where more still is needed capital from abroad should be solicited. In that way Denver, when but a little city, drew $18,000,000 from the east for investment. The men who deal in building material should agree upon what would be a fair profit and be content with that and not, when the building season opens, advance prices to the prohibitive pro-hibitive point. The labor unions should likewise agree upon what would be just to them and to their patrons, and hold those rates if a rush begins. be-gins. There should be concert of action all around, that spirit that will cause visitors to be- a lieve that the man of Salt Lake are determined I that this must be a great city. That will induce i many a one to stop here and join the procession. The inspiration must start here. The law of human nature is to avoid those who need help, but to try to "get in" with any one who has a good thing. Outsiders will come here when con- ; vinced that this is the best showing on their j horizon. The people here must make the showing. |
