Show Oldest Escalante Man Dies Escalante's oldest male resident, William M. Alvcy, 82, died March 13 at his home of causes Incident to age. Mr. Alvey was born tnEag-land December 6, 1874, and came to Utah at the age of 14. lie was a farmer and stock man. On March 26, 1903 he married LillisCUen Barney at Escalante, with an IDS temple ceremony later In Manti. She died a number of years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. J. Clyde (Lillie) Spencer; 2 sons: Edison and Freeman, all of Escalante; 12 grandchildren, 13 great grand children; 3 brothers and 4 sisters: Thomas, George, Sam, of Escalante; Eliza Mclnelly, Mabel Pratt, Escalante; Annie Adams, Kanab; Sarah McCol-ough, Delta. Funeral services were held ' Saturday, March 16, In the South Ward chapel. The prayer In the home was by Royal Barney; opening song,"Be- yond the Sunset", by the Singing Mothers;; Invocation, Roland Porter; song, "Whispering Hope", by Veda MitchcU and Verda Llston; talk by W. R (Blllie) Barker; talk, President J. Clyde Spencer; song "Oh My Father", by Layton, Jtayand Alburn Griffin and Usher Spencer accompanied by Janet Spencer; talk, Harvey Bailey; song by Singing Mothers, and benediction by ' Jennings Allen. The grave was 'dedicated by George W. Spencer. Burial was in Escalante cemetery under direction of Ncal S. Magleby Mortuary. |
