Coughlin's vehicle rolled several times, throwing the victim from his auto. Kanab Wins Region Tournament; First Round Playoffs Saturday Kanab High School won the Region 21 basketball tournament at Panguitch Saturday with a 73-59 win over Parowan, and teams head for the first round of more playoffs this weekend. Games are scheduled at Richfield, South Sevier, Provo and Payson high schools Saturday night. The Saturday games are actually the first round of the state tournament, with the eight winning teams to go to the state 1-A tournament March 13, 14 and 15 in Provo and the eight losers out of further tournament play. Following is the Saturday schedule: At Provo High Escalante vs South Summit; Park City vs Panguitch. At Richfield High North Sevier vs East Carbon; Tintic vs Piute. At South Sevier High North Rich vs Parowan; Kanab vs South Rich. At Payson High Dugway vs Beaver; Altamont vs Monticello. All games are at 6 and 8 p.m., with the 6 p.m. games listed first in all the above schedules. In other final round games at Panguitch last Saturday, Piute whipped Beaver 70-61 for third and fifth place; Valley, 69, Enterprise, 65; Escalante, 72, North Sevier, 60; Panguitch, 53, Gunnison, 40. Friday game scores were Escalante, 54, Valley, 52; Parowan, 71, Beaver, 58; Gunnison, 62, Wayne, 42; Enterprise, 72, Milford, 50; Kanab, 66, Piute, 58; North Sevier, 53, Panguitch, 52. Gary and Kim Glover combined for 42 points to pace and Kanab team to their win over Parowan for the championship. Parowan's Mike Thornton and Gary Glover each made 28 to tie for top scoring honors. Kennedy Sylvester was top scorer in the Piute victory over Beaver as he made 24 points. Shane Millet hit for 20 and Greg Bagley made 12 for the Thunderbirds. |
