Show APRIL 5,2007 s&-:-; UTAH Garfield County Fair arts COUNCIL -;is now in tile planning stages. ANNOUNCES FELLOWSHIP EXHIBITION The Utah Arts Council (UAC) will present the 2006 and 2007 Visual Arts Fellowship recipients in an exhibition at the Rio Gallery March 16 through April 28, 2007. The four recipients featured in the exhibition are Mark England, Jacqui Larsen, Amy Caron and Kaiti Slater. An opening reception, in conjunction with the Salt Lake Gallery Stroll, will be held in the Rio Gallery, 300 South 455 East in Salt Lake City, March 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. "We are pleased to promote these established visual artists and provide opportunities for them to share their outstanding creative achievements," said Margaret Hunt, executive director of the Utah Arts Council. "This fellowship demonstrates our commitment to ensure Utah artists have resources for professional development and Utah residents have access to experience and view artistic excellence." As part of a longterm effort to strengthen creative industry throughout the state, UAC seeks to increase awareness and foster understanding in the arts by juried fellowship awards. In 2006, England's visionary landscapes and Larsen's combinations of abstraction and figuration were selected because of the high degree of originality represented in both projects. In 2007, Caron's provocative blend of video and performance work and Slater's intriguing video sculptures were chosen for the impressive quality and the ambitious nature of their proposals. Since 1986, UAC has awarded annually two fellowships to Utah visual artists. The award recognizes, encourages and promotes excellence in visual artists working in all visual media. For more information about the Visual Arts Fellowship, contact UAC's Visual Arts Program Manager, Lila Abersold, at 801.533.3581 nr1aherso1dfgntah.gov. The Utah Arts Council is part of the Division of Arts and Museums within the Utah Department of Community and Culture. The public agency conducts programs that annually provide more than 500 outreach services to arts organizations, groups and individuals throughout Utah. Additionally, this vote would reauthorize the Act and fully fund the Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program for five years. The Senate voted, 75-22, for the bipartisan amendment that devotes $2.8 billion over five years (2007- 2011) for payments to counties and states affected by the loss of timber revenue from federal land and SI.9 billion to fully fund PILT from fiscal 2008 through 2012. "This is an important first step in a process that's farfromover, but we greatly appreciate the support of the senators who demonstrated their understanding of the plight of public lands counties by their votes," said Robert Cope, commissioner, Lemhi County, Idaho. Cope is president of the National Association of Counties' Western Interstate Region, which fought aggressively for reauthorization of the Secure Rural Schools bill and full funding of the Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program. UAC particularly recognize Utah Senators Orrin Hatch and Bob Bennett, who were among the 75 who voted in favor of the amendment. Hatch was also a co-sponsor of the legislation, along with 18 other senators: The approved amendment was attached to the emergency supplemental appropriations bill to fund the military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. I heard that the wind took off a roof on one of the sheds behind Ken Robert's place, but all of the trees are still standing. Our little town has many people with health problems right now. Leland Robinson was helping a family member with a building project when some lumber fell, landing on his leg. He was rushed to Panguitch, and sent from there to Cedar City for a leg or hip operation. Burns Black has had surgery on his shoulder, and is home now. His wife, Mona is scheduled for back surgery also. Judy Zobell has lost her voice to the dreaded colds that have been circulating. David Roberts, son of Ken and Valeen has also had back surgery, and is recovering well. Since then, he has recently traveled to an Elk Convention and reports he had a great time, and came home with some nice prizes. Chace Brindley brought some of his children up to visit Grandma this week, and to help around the home. Hal and Athalia Jensen drove to Nephi to watch their granddaughter in a school marching squad activity. INVESTMENT One DVR. Two TVs. DishDVR Advantage. It's about time.
