Show Page 4 =10111111ME., IITCHJ 14S: 11Q, 66°1"146— The Gem Theatre sure looks good with their new marquee, what a wonderful job that has been done to turn an eyesore into a real show piece. They are using the theater as a multi purpose use, hosting a wedding reception last week.. The Gem Theatre will open on May 28. On the same day there will be the third annual Giant Garage sale on Main Street. You can obtain a table from the City to put all of your treasures on, and there have been some great buys. Meanwhile treat your self to some great ice cream at the Gem and hourly events. . Sister Sherrill Henrie who is returning from her Mission to the West Virginia area, will speak at the 3rd Ward on Sunday the 22nd. The meeting starts a 9 am. Last week the Bryce Canyon shuttle bus started out at the Park. I have my first real job in twenty years and I am loving it. I volunteered out at the Red Canyon Visitor Center for seven years and this is about the same thing, telling people about the wonders of Southern Utah, only for money. There are at least 10 men and women working for the shuttle, from Panguitch and Hatch. Today is the Blood drive in our area, Thursday, May 19th, from 2:00 to 7:00 pm. Call V. or Janice Henrie at 676-8012 or show up and they will fit you in, there are always a few cancellations. There a number of dates coming up at Panguitch High School. On May 22, will be the Graduate's Tea, 5:00 pm at the high school auditorium. It is sponsored by the Business Women and this is a fun event that all are invited to attend. In the evening there will be the Seminary Graduation and it will be held at the Stake Center at 7:00 pm. On Wednesday the 25th will be the Class of 2011 Graduation. This is always a great event, because it profiles each student and what they are going to do after High School. This has been a fun class; there are only 5 boys in the Class and 25 girls. The Junior Prom was really something. The Class of 2011 has had a lot of accomplishments and a lot of successes in their early life, see you there. CHOCOLATE FEST / SILENT AUCTION. This year the Chocolate Fest, which is held annually in conjunction with the Quilt Walk Festival, will direct its proceeds to the Sub for Santa Fund. Your donation of CHOCOLATE items 14111.1"1641Mia1.cois and silent auction items are greatly needed and appreciated. If you have questions please call Pat @ 676-2418. QUILT WALK RACE: ATTENTION ALL QUILT WALK RACE CONTESTANTS If you get a team of SEVEN before May 28th and call Pat Oetting @ 676-2418 your team will get QUILT WALK T-Shirts for participating. Be sure and include t-shirt sizes. $$ prices will still be awarded to the winning team. The Lions Club sponsors this event so come and support them. I got a letter from Ardeth Davis telling me about her family trip down the Hole in the Rock road. Kane County after 15 years has giving Garfield County money to help with roads down in to Kane County. Garfield County has done a lot of work on this road to make it passable. Ardeth made the trip with her sister Thois Griffen and her husband Gene, Son Brent and Shila and two of their children and Wilford and Carol Pacif (Shila Parents). The country South of Escalante is both different and beautiful. The road is a washboard, some of it is sandy and some of it slick rock. They didn't have to put their trucks in 4 wheel drive anywhere on the trip. The "Aries Rock" in Australia has nothing over us; we have hundreds of them, only more beautiful and all different. A long the way there is Devils Garden, Slick Rock, the Dance Hall rock, and where the Boy Scouts were killed. Seven Scouts and six Adults from Provo died on June 10, 1963. There were forty nine people in the party and there is a monument that tells the story. It took Ardeth's party six hours to get to the Hole in the Rock, with a lot of picture taking. It only took two and a half hours to return to Escalante, however it is only 67 miles and is an indicator how rough the road was. South of Panguitch the road has some truck ruts in the highway. When it rains in this area it is easy to hydro plane your vehicle, however if you drive out of the tracks you will be safe. However the other day when it snowed and the road was slushy it was impossible to see these tracks, leading to a one truck roll over, so watch this area, when it's wet. Thanks for your letter Ardith, I think we will try to make it there sometime this summer. Mack 0.
