With changing fire conditions, there may be temporary closures and additional restrictions and if conditions warrant, a total closure of the road. With the reopening of the road to Rainbow Point, visitors are reminded to: • Use caution for fire crews, vehicles and equipment on the road • Do not stop nor park along the road in burned areas • Stop only in designated pullouts • Obey speed limits and warning signs • Stay on the pavement and paths; do not enter burned areas The following areas will remain closed to the public: • Long Hollow Picnic area • Whiteman Bench Trailhead Pullout • Under-the Rim Trail (South of Yellow Creek) • Swamp Canyon, Sheep Creek, Whiteman Bench and Agua Canyon Connector • Trails and associated backcountry campsites. The Riggs Spring Loop Trail is open. Backcountry campsite permits are limited to a maximum of one night and are available for the campsites along the Riggs Spring Loop and Yellow Creek area. All visitor services including campgrounds, stores, visitor center and Bryce Canyon Lodge are open. All viewpoints are open. Visitors are encouraged to ride the park’s shuttle as roads and parking areas are congested. Smoke and haze may be visible in the park. This lightning-caused fire, which started on June 14 at Bridge Hollow in the Dixie National Forest, is now estimated at 3,556 acres with half of the acreage on forest lands and half on park lands. As of this morning, the fire is approximately 60% contained. The fire is being managed by a local Type III Interagency Incident Management organization under the direction of Randy Turrill. If they continue to make progress with containment, fire crews and equipment will gradually be released over the next 2-3 days. A Great Place for Reunions “HAROLD’S PLACE” Restaurant Inn and Cabins “Summer Specials” Shrimp Skewers ~ Pecan Trout Hawaiian Ham Steak and many more Hwy 12 just off 89 by Vicki D. Syrett 679-8687 or vickidiane36@hotmail.com One of the most successful Half Marathon’s was run on Saturday, July 18th. 1500 runners ran from Ruby’s Inn down to the Cannonville Park. They were all gracious and thanked the volunteers for their efforts and time along the route. One man from Koosharem finished his run and came back on the road and cheered everyone on. He was very delightful and helpful. He helped pick up cups and fill water jugs. He had a good thing to say to the runners as they went by. It was interesting to see how many of the runners finished and then came back looking for a family member or friend to run back to Cannonville with. One young lady was having a difficult time finishing and two ladies came back and finished with her and she was so grateful. It was very heartwarming to see the comradrie that went on during this marathon between the runners. Kudos go out to the people in charge of putting this together and all the hard work they did making sure the water stations and the park were all manned with volunteers. Also to the Bryce Valley Lions Club thanks for the great breakfast each year. Marsha Holland wow!!! Good job. Anita Fletcher is home recovering from eye surgery and is looking great. She even wandered out to the water station we were at to visit and watch the runners. We wish her a successful and speedy recovery. Ryan and RosaLee White were here visiting with Joe and Trish Thompson and Ryan was out taking pictures of the runners and enjoying all the events going on. Visiting in Tropic was the Rhett Wintch Family who came to visit with Kent Wintch. Good to see them once in awhile. Condolences to the family of Michelle Barton who passed away this week. She was the daughter of Laurel and Beatrice Barton. If you have a few free minutes on Saturday the people doing the Pioneer Day celebratins could use your help. The Henrieville Young Men and Young Women went to Salt Lake for their Youth Conference. There were twenty-five youth and 10 adults on the trip. They went to the Church Printing Facillity, visited lots of places on Temple Square, and camped at a KOA in Salt Lake. They then went to the Qquirrh Temple Open House and said it was beautiful. They wore gold shirts emblazoned with “Stand in Holy Places” which was their theme. It was a very good trip but it was so hot. Shawn Chynoweth cooked a great dutch oven dinner on Thursday night for everyone and it was delicious. They were gone for two days. The youth decided to see how many people they could get to say hello back to them. There goal was one hundred but they got over two hundred by smiling and saying hello and being friendly. They were happy, happy kids. It was so neat said Mrs. Gayle Moore the Young Women’s President. The Young Women also put their gold flag of Virtue up on the hill east of Henrieville. It looks beautiful up there waving in the breezes. While up that way Frankie and Gayle Moore went to Farmington to stay with the Ferrin Family, Gayle’s parents. Wade and Ryan were with them and the next day they all attended the Bountiful Temple so Ryan could prepare for his mission to Montana.
