Show PfUl Efll fU VISIT FILLMORE The Millard High Eagles became the 196 Class 2A Champions by defeating Morgan in the 3rd overtime of the game. The first was scoreless. quarter Then in the second quarter a Morgan fumble recovered by Mark Miller and a 35 yard pass from Dean Stephenson to Don Beckstrand set up a 25 yard TD pass from Dean S. to Jim Larsen Mike H. kicked the extra point. A fumble recovery just before the end of the first half, by Dan Davis set up a 15 yard T.D. pass from Dean Stephenson to Mark Petersen. Mike Hosman kicked the extra point and the score at half time was Millard 14 Morgan 0. In the second half twice. scored Morgan First on a five yard run and they also ran in for the extra points. In in In the first overtime Morgan had the first try at a T.D. on the first play Morgans Rick Sloan ran to the Millard 2 yard line. But on the next three plays the Eagles put up a tough goal line stand and kept the Trojans from scoring. Millard took their turn at scoring and tried a field goal but the effort failed. After two overtimes neither team had scored. Morgan started out the 3rd overtime with the ball, but the Egles hd'fd and took their turn to try for the score knowing that if they did they would be the State ckhamps. On the second play of the series, a halfback pass. Rod Quarnberg hit Mark Petersen on a 7 yard T.D. pass for the score that gave 4 Millard a victory. The entire Millard High studentbody is very proud of this great football team, and we wish to congratulate them on a JOB WELL DONE ! ! ! Missouri, last week where they received special recognition for the chapter's achievements in the National FFA safety Award The Program. 103 of one was chapter Safety Award winners that received special recognition at a banquet in their honor last Tuesday evening. The banquet was hosted by Dow Chemical USA and Farm and Industrial Institute, Equipment sponsors of the National FFA Safety Award Program through tiie National FFA Foundation. Inc. The chapters rccognicd this year participated in a wide range of safety activities including: farm and home safety surveys, auto and farm equipment safety inspections, promotion ami sale of slow vehicle signs, moving harvest safe corn campaigns, programs to illustrate safety procedures in the use of farm chemicals and many other farm and home safety projects. The FFA Chapter Safely Award is one of three aw ards recognizing chapter participation in activities of national significance. It is designed to increase awareness of safety practices through classroom instruction and educational activities. Each year accidents on the farm and in the home exact a tragic toll of death, destruction and mutilation among rural and urban families. The FFA Safety Program is designed to make Students aware of the causes of accidents and how they can be prevented. National level chapters continued to the back F order to participate the HOSPITAL The 144th Hospital unit of the Utah National Guard conducted medical screening tests in Fillmore that last Saturday saw a steady stream of local people coming through the lines, which include several medical screening booths and display on what to do in an emer- - V ( ' T it. 14-1- Dr. Kenneth Topham, Superintendent of the Millard School District, will be going to Russia on an Eastern Mission in Europe Study March. Dr. Kenneth Topham. of the Suprintcndent Millard School District, has been selected to participate in an International Study Mission to Eastern This Europe. mission is sponsored by the American Association of School Administrators. EVACUATION Superin- be nominated by their chief State School Officer, and recommended the by governing board of the American Association of School Administrators. Residents of the Fillmore area were visited today by the 144th Evacuation Hospital of the Utah National Guard. Citizens in the area received a varietyof medial services provided by the hospital unit and participated with the local Emergency Medical TEchntcians (EMT's). in a day long medical open house. The S.L.C. based hospital unit flew into the Fillmore area to start the first in a series of Community Service Team projects which are designed to provide services to the rural regions in the form of basic medical examination and health principles. During the day, vision and hearing exams, blood pressure readings and pediatrics were offerred to the local citizens and the local Emergency Medical Technicians received some fo the necessary recertification requirements of their specific areas. Immunizations for children were offerred and a Community Health Seminar featuring information from the hospital unit and the Utah Chapter of the American Trauma Society were conducte dlater in the afternoon. The Fillmore project is the first in a scries of planned community team open houses, the next being scheduled for the Vernal area sometime later this winter. n FLAMES DESTROY FLOWELL HOME n Steve Frampton, Fillmore Fire Department finally gets "to what is left of the roof and starts to cool down the fire. Flames completely dost roved Flowed home late Saturday afternoon despite efforts of the Fillmore Fire Department to extinguish the blae. The home belonging to is Paul Christensen located iust west of the Floweil LDS Church. The home was nearly destroyed by the time the firemen arrived and this coupled with the lack of water, saw the home burned to the ground. Neighbors and friends with fireman, along however, were able to get most of the contents out of the home. The fire is believed to have started in a utility building that was west of the house. Paul and his wife have three small cHdren. all were at home when the blaze started except Paul who was attending National guard drill in Fillmore. The young painters are using spray air brush paint, photo-lif- t to create and polymer-lil- t compositions. interesting The Utah Division of Fine Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts with the arc MHS local school district and MHS Art Department in providing a special service to art students in the area. Mr. Beck received his B.F.A. from University of Utah in 1963 and his MFA from Cranbrook of Art. Bloomfield Hills. Mich.. 1964. He has had varied in teaching, inand Sr. High Jr. cluding and school. Uni! orsitv Jr.-S- r. Aca-dem- v levels of learning. A long list of awards both in Utah, the west, and nationally has been accomplished by Mr. Beck. He is also a maker of films in and is represented several collections and film festivals. Three of his paintings are on display at the High school until 4 p.rn. Friday. Nov. 19.
