Show imt Slide Closes Miam Garapn toad Holiday weekend traffic was partially blocked on Utah Highway 33 (Indian Canyon), betweem Helper and Duchesne (between U.S. Highway 40 and U.S. Highway 50), as a rock slide hurtled huge boulders onto the road bed, 33 miles southwest of Duchesne, near the Duchesne County-Carbon County line. State road maintenance equipment from the Duchesne shed were dispatched to clear the rocks, some which were half as big as a wagon bed. Evan Stephenson, state road crew foreman, dispatched dis-patched a huge truck, with blade, late Sunday evening, eve-ning, to push the rocks over the side of the road, west, into the Avintaquin drainage. The rocks fell from a cut in the mountain for the realignment of this highway stretch a couple of years ago. Mr. Stephenson reported the highway was cleared about 4 p.m., May 30. Equipment to do the job was moved in from Vernal. The equipment sent up Sunday was not of the typq to do the ob. Blasting with dynamite was required to break the rocks to "moving " size. Some of the rocks were 8x6x6 feet. The roadbed was damaged in places during the blasting and removal of the rocks. ' " : ". : .
