Per Copy 5c Dragerton, Utah, Tuesday, March 2, 1948 1 THE BEEHIVE CORE OVERS Work of putting the coke ovens m shape that were recently acParts quired by the Kaiser-FrazCo, is now under way Approximately fifty men are engaged in cleaning up the oens, repairing the tracks on both the top of the battery of ovens, as w ell as the rail lines along the discharge end In charge of this operation for the new operating company is George Morlock, as superintendent with E. J Duffy of Provo as manager which of the entire operation, consists of the blast furnace at Ironton, as well as the Columbia coke ovens. It is understood that the first order for 5000 tons of coal to be used in warming up the coke ovens wall be delivered at once Inspection has shown that most of the ovens are in fair shape, but all will be gone over carefully for needed repairs before being put into operation. When the 500 ovens are all in that operataion, it is expected from 4,000 to 5,000 tons of coke Most will be produced monthly of this will be used by the Kaiser-FrazParts Co , in their blast furnace operations, but it is expected that some excess producindustrial tion will reach the users throughout the west er er Welfare Show Thurs., March 4 The Welfare Association will hold their free show this coming Thursday, March 4. Plans Greater Output Production of coal by Kaiser , Inc , through the entrance of the Utah Fuel Sunnyside mine reached an almost all time high during January, according to a report made by Rcbt G Heers, project manager of the comp.inv Co coal operations The total Janureached 57,000 ary production tons Februaiy will not leach these figures, according to Mr Heers, because of the shoit month, but estimates are that approximately 53,000 tons of coal will be produced one day this At the week was 2,215 tons present time about 300 men are employed by the company Many le of these are residents of the area, and records in the office show that there are over 60 apphcataions pending for homes for the miners employed by the company. Plans of the company call for an increase of production to take care of the coal needed when the coke ovens recently acquired by the Kaiser & Frazer Parts Co get into full production. Coal for this operation will come from both the Kaiser company and the Utah Fuel company, both working through tne same washery. According to Project Manager Heers, the increased production on the part of the Kaiser Co., Ina, will be affected mostly through more efficient mining processes. New equipment is expected daily to replace that being used in the mine, and the present conveyor system of handling the coal will be replaced by more modern joy loaders and shuttle cars. It is expected that only a very few additional miners will have to be added to the force to step up to the needed production, when the new equipment 's Production on Sun-nyda- installed . The main objective of the gun club is to furnish sporting enjoyment for the men of East Carbon and to develop . here the outstanding gun club within the state. Already many members pf this club have received statewide recognition for their ability as shooters. Our boys need never take a back seat to anyone in the state. However, it is their wish that ' the entire community will participate with them and get the same enjoyment out of trapshooting that those now get who are regular members of the club.
