The final two hours under oxygen was spent in a Toom filled with sulphur" dioxide gas, which is highly irritating to eyes, nasal, and lung tissues. In the past few years, the apparatus owned and maintained by the Geneva Steel Company has been used in three separate emergencies that have occurred in the Carbon county area. The .apparatus and mine rescue teams have participated in recovery work following an explosion in one of the local mines of the district, and they have also successfully fought and controlled two separate mine fires in our area. - PETE CONNELL ENTERTAINS BOOK CUFF MEMBERS AND GUESTS WITH MUSIC P1 Book Cliff Club of Sunnydale and opened the club year with a rousing good meeting, Sunnyside Tuesday evening September 28, at the clubhouse in Sunnydale. The main attraction and entertainment of the evening was furnished by Mr. Pete Connell of Sunnydale, "The Man of Many In- struments. After the president, Mrs. Mary Daily, called the meeting report waa firiven h? the club 'treasurer, Jo Ann Klssell. There was some discussion of a bazaar to be given sometime before Christmas. Plans are still indefinite on the subject. - SOCIAL SECURITY TO CONTACT PERSONS OVER 65 To help them protect their full social security benefit rights, the Social Security Administration is issuing a special call to workers and former workers who have reached the age of 65 it was announced today by Sherman H. Ruesch, manager of the Provo Field Office. Any person covered by the Social Security Act may file his claim at age 65 even though he is still working, according to Mr. Ruesch. Of course,' the eligible wage earner may not receive benefits while he is working ih a job covered by the social security program. But by filing application he can prevent any possible loss of benefits in the future. If he keeps putting off making a claim, he may lose some monthly payments to which he would otherwise be entitled. So important is this matter that, we not only invite, but urge 2300. Candidates For NRGJC College College aptitude tests for the selection of approximately 2,300 candidates for 1949 college scholarships under the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program will be given throughout the United States, Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Canal Zone Mrs. Wanda Cassano reported that the nursing scholarship which the club sponsored has been awarded to Miss Julia Cobo of Sunnydale. Julia passed her entrance examinations at Salt Lake General Hospital with such high honors that the committee recommended that Miss Cobo also attend the University of Utah for one year and then finish her training. The club is quite proud to know that they have helped a deserving girl on her way to a wonderful career. Introducing Pete Connell After the business meeting adjourned, the program chairman, Mrs. Margaret Heers, introduced Mr.- - Pete Connell, " the guest of the evening. Mr. Connell played selections on the Gibson banjo, a guitar, a musical saw accompanied by his wife at the piano, and on a home made doleimen. The dulcimer was the favorite instru-- " ment of the group, especially when the 'whole building echoed to The Stars and Stripes Forever march. A skit was presented by the executive .committee showing the way an executive committee meeting should not be conducted. Mrs. Alice Kloster and Mrs. Alice Faddis led community singing followed by refreshments. Each member was to bring a prospectve member as guest to give them a general Idea of club Work and of the program outlined for the year.
