Show Mav 13, 1997 The Dixie Sun Page 3 Annual Rebel Awards Recognize the Finest College's NEWS and SERVICE SUN Dixie College recognized individual excellence at the annual Rebel Awards held in the Gardner Center Ballroom Monday evening. The event, hosted by Carl Lamar, vice president. Red Rock Broadcasting and founder of KONY radio station, was sponsored in part by McDonalds of St. George and McArthur's Jewelers. The Rebel Awards have become the most prestigious student, faculty and staff honors the college bestows. The night began with the presentation of Entertainer of the Year award to Robert Roxburgh. The Achievement of the Year was awarded to Dennis Sanders for his extraordinary sacrifices in gaining an education. The Personality of the Year award went to Emily Decker who served the past year as ASDC service and who organized the Service vice-preside- nt Club. The Dixie Spirit Award was given to Andy Nielsen and Ryan Secrist for demonstrating through attitude, involvement and enthusiasm their loyalty to Dixie College. The Distinguished Service Award recognizes the individual who has made significant contributions to the college. Betty Martin received the award for her work as president of the Club Re-Ent- ry AT for past contributions as over service projects in the Club. liiq Corin' Sponsored by Student Support Services vice-preside- nt Re-Ent- ry The Outstanding Freshman Student was presented to Melinda Kidman for excellence in the classroom and involvement in a worthwhile endeavor. The Outstanding Sophomore Award went to Chandra Chipman and Kristin Danzer. In addition to student recognition, the Outstanding Teacher Award was given to Pat Roper for her efforts in education. The Distinguished Service Staff Award was presented to Loya Garrett for going above and beyond the call of duty in serving students and fellow employees of Dixie College. The awards ceremony also included a Special Recognition Award selected by college administrators which paid tribute to an individual who has made contributions to benefit students. President Robert Huddleston presented this award to Jeff Norton who has served as project director for the resurfacing of the football field at Hansen Stadium. In addition to individual awards, the 1997 honor graduates were saluted and the valedictorian for the upcoming commencement exercises was announced. Kenny Rollins will represent the class of 1997 at the podium on graduation day as the valedictorian for Dixie College. iA DIXIE COLLEGE 1997 Fall Registration Open Registration started May 12th Telephone registration is available from 7:00 am -- 5:00 weekdays and also on weekends and late nights.
