minersville Miners ville and released on ball bail on july 5 moses wilkinson of east mill creek was released from the penitentiary on 1000 bonds he was arrested at east weber on monday last on a charge of unlawful cohabitation and was placed in the penitentiary when no he could notify his friends ball bail was furnished he was indicted february 21 1888 on july 10 bishop L 9 anderson conof of ephraim sanpete county was arrested on charges of unlawful cohabitation and polygamy he recently returned from a mission of over two years in europe released from prison on july 6 paul poulsen of richmond cache county was released from the penitentiary where he has served a nine months term for polygamy th the e fourth the fourth of july was generally observed many people taking advantage of the opportunity to go into the canyons for a quiet rest or to enjoy themselves at the various pleasure resorts the lake was largely patronized not only by residents of the city but by inhabitants of the country districts for instance a utah central train left this city comfortably filled before reaching syracuse the number of passengers had bad doubled and not only were the cars backed but the club boller boiler explosion brother john M lewis of mesa arizona sends an account of an accident which occurred ou on his farm on saturday afternoon june 30 A threshing machine was at work on the place and the horse power was broken As it would take several days to get new parts it was decided to use steam power A journal on the threshing machine became overheated and while it was being bet cooled the men got into the sha shade e of a water wagon within a few feet of the boiler they were in this position when the boiler exploded scalding two of them severely two slightly and Injuring six others the larger portion of the boiler was thrown about 40 feet away one of the trucks went twenty yards in another direction the other truck and tongue were hurled a distance of yards pieces of the boiler flew in every direction two stacks of barley containing about pounds of grain were burned by strenuous efforts five other stacks in 7 the ibe same field were saved the persons who are injured are david holman helman and frank openshaw badly scalded about the face brealand brea and arms besides having a number of cuts on various parts of their bodies isaac dana and dudley 8 lewis also so for such sheep stating the number approximately to be leased such proposal to be under seal and to state the number of sheep for the price to be paid per head the leases to commence on the lat of september 1889 and terminate one year thereafter the sheep to le be returned at that time to be equal in number quality and condition to those received all losses and accidents to be at the risk of justice of this court on or before the day of august august 1889 water meeting in the ninth school district on july 10 after the election was over a meeting was held to discuss the water question n S W darke wanted the people to show their displeasure with the present city council by retiring them all next february but this manner of proceeding without inqui inquiry ry was not adopted and the meeting adjourned till next monday evening when further steps will be taken toward procuring a recognition of the water rights or of those residing in the ninth district in the tenth district there was also a meeting on te water question after the school ele election etton mr H barnes was elected chairman and mr fuller secretary after speeches had been made by young fuller and S rs a standing committee consig consisting of fuller and barnes were requested to v visit sit the city council next night and urge upon them the claims of the residents of the tenth ward to the prior and every legal right to the waters of emigration creek an adjournment was then taken till the next friday evening when a meeting was to be held to hear the report of the committee and make arrangements to take any necessary steps in the matter |
