necessity of a bridge abridge across the va i anal there and offered to construct it if the city would furnish the material referred to the committee on streets A petition from property owners on commercial street asked to have an electric lamp placed on that street opposite the alley known as olive street referred to the committee on improvements R W crane and others petitioned to have an extension of the water mains made on first west street between sixth and seventh south as ordered by the last council referred to the committee on water works mary fritberg asked to be reimbursed imbur sed for a fence put up at her expense on a lot owned by the city referred to the committee on claims E sells and other property owners on or near block 31 plat F objected to the dumping of garbage there referred to the sanitary committee A large number of residents of granger petitioned to have what is known as the redwood road and which leads frona from the city westward graveled to the city limits referred to the comm atee on streets john W young represented that the jordan and salt lake canal had been constructed across a piece of land belonging to him lik in the sugar house ward and asked as compensation referred to the committee on salt lake and jordan canal H pembroke asked permission to pile building m ferial in the street near the corner of second north and second west streets granted street supervisor paul and city engineer doremus do reruns presented a comm uni cation recommending that the grade of the streets throughout the city be fixed city attorney merritt stated that tho the ordinance now under consideration creating the office of city engineer provided for the fixing of the grade of the streets and covered the subject completely the matter was tabled the report of the sealer of weights and measures was received and filed but not read the report of the street supervisor showing exit expenditures for a portion of the last quarter amounting to 1762 on the streets and 10 for gravel was rest read A question arose as to tio the proper disposition ot of these and like reports james moved that they be referred to the finance committee for auditing carried the city attorney reported favorably on the petition of A H kuehler for a deed reciting the history of the case he also reported recommending that a deed be given to P P pratt in of W J newman to pu purchase lchase a piece apiece of land on eleventh west street between second and fourth north recommending that the lands be advertised and sold to the highest bidder tte the city attorney raised a law point in connection with the procedure which must depend upon the manner in which the city became possessed of the lands whether by original patent or purchase A motion was made and carried that the matter le be referred to the peti to ascertain this but later this was reconsidered and the recommendations of the committee were adopted the same committee reported on the petition of ellas elias thomas to rent a certain building in city creek canyon recommending that such building and also the old silk factory be advertised for lease by the month or year and that both citizens an am ample ale supply of pure water without using the tax receipts and without increasing the peris onal water rents it will result in the laying of all new pipes and mains needed without
