Senior Mike Taylor rebounded his own shot and banked one off the glass with two seconds remaining to give Davis a 2 54-5- double overtime victory over Bountiful Friday night. THE WIN left the Darts and tie with East Braves in a three-wa- y for top spot in Region Four, all at That jam will be broken Tuesday night when Bountiful hosts East at 7:30 p.m. Davis started fast, moving to a 16-- 9 lead with two minutes left in the first period. Davis heat the Hr 30-1- .s The second half, however, was a different story. A dormant Bountiful offense suddenly came alive, as the Braves ran off the first 10 points of the third period. During that stretch, Critchley was particularly hot, scoring six points and helping his teammates force four Davis turnovers. Bountiful actually took its Chris Card follow ed 12 seconds later by doing the s.m.c. Both teams failed to score the rest of the way In the first overtime. Bountiful controlled the tip. Card fouled Brett Williams with 2:52 to go. and Williams made one free throw. Davis took a 0 lead 22 seconds later when Rees scored and was fouled. But his charity toss was too soft. THE DARTS seemed to have the game in hand when, at the 2:07 mark, Darren Dean was whistled for a foul away from the ball on Rees. But again, Davis could only convert one free throw, and Bountiful tied it at 52-a- ll on a field goal by Dusty Jacobs with 1:45 left. Davis stalled for the last shot, but a by Taylor with one second left was short. Davis controlled the tip for the second overtime, and stalled without taking a shot for more than tw o minutes, finally calling timeout . biggest lead at 4 with :40 to go in the quarter, but a basket by Meier and tw o free throws by Rees tied the game at 38-agoing into the final period. 38-3- 51-5- ll WX, Viewmont girls lead region pack Woods Cross and Viewmont continue to pace the Region Four girls basketball standings, both teams winning a pair of games last week. Here is a look at last weeks contests: w'ay with 12 points apiece, as the Braves dumped East. Kris Rose and Heidi Olsen also got into double figures, with 10 and II points respectively. OF COURSE, it didn't turn out to be the final period. Davis scored four free throws to start it off, two each by Meier and Taylor. Critchley countered with two for Bountiful. After two hoops by Willard gave the Darts a 46-4- 2 lead, Steve Mihas canned a pair of jumpers to knot the score again. Mihas gave the lead back to Bountiful with 3:01 left, hitting two free throws, but Taylor knotted things again with two free throws. Chad Rigby sank the second shot foul with exactly 2:00 of a two-shleft, giving Bountiful a 8 lead. er ot 49-4- THURSDAY with 21 seconds left. Again coach John Robison called for Taylor to take the shot. With six seconds left, he took a shot from the light side, followed it. then banked in his rebound. Bountiful called timeout with two seconds left. The Braves inbounded, again called time, then inbounded from ha'fcoutt with one second to go. FOR MIKE Evan's crew, the game saw' senior Mike Osiek come field goals and alive. Osiek hit went 8 from the free throw line in tallying 28 points. Junior Spence Hansen added 12 for Woods Cross. 6-- HIGHLAND 60 VIEWMONT 57 At Viewmont, Larry Maxwell's Rams took over fourth place in league with a three point victory. Steve Solomon poured in 21 points for Highland, leaving him just one point behind region scoring leader Mike Tay lor of Davis. TODD WALKER and Kevin Davis both had 14 points for Viewmont. while Bill Crow'thcr added . The loss hurt, but did not completely kill the Vikes' chances for the fourth state playoff spot in Region Four. TUESDAY WOODS CROSS 79 DAVIS 64 At Davis, the Wildcats ran into a fiesty Dart crew which led for three quarters before fading late. Woods Cross outscored Davis 0 in the 27-1- final period to make the score somewhat deceiving. All five Wildcat starters got into double figures, as Becky Trimble had 21, Amy Mason and Jackie Williams 14 each, Wendi Warhurt 13 and sophomore center Marci Heaps 11. Nancy Kirkpatrick led Davis with 22 points, while Becky Rees added 12. VIEWMONT 58 HIGHLAND 54 At Highland, Virginia Hugoe poured in 23 points in a game marred by sloppy officiating. Viewmont may have lost starter Launi Larsen for the year with a wrist injury, as the game got out of control physically. Angel Skedros backed up Hugoewith 18 points, and Julie Stuart added nine for Viewmont. BOUNTIFUL 63 d EAST 45- - At Bountiful, Jill and Michele Behl led the Wes-tergar- WOODS CROSS 84 EAST 47 It was Marci Heaps finest week so far, as the talented sophomore center dumped in 15 points to help the Wildcats. Becky Trimble led all scorers as usual with 25 points, Warhurst added 18 and Mason 15 for the Lady Cats. The game was played at East. VIEWMONT 64 BOUNTIFUL 53 At Viewmont, the Viking Ladies won the first big intercity showdown. Virginia Hugoe had a career high 34 points to lead the way, while Skedros added 10 points and Stuart eight. Bountiful was paced by Olsen with 17 points and Westergard with 15. DAVIS 64 HIGHLAND 59 Lady Darts moved to 3 in league play, and into fourth place, with the win at home. Junior Theresa Cross led the way with 16 points, and Kirkpatrick and junior Kristin Packer helped out with points apiece. Davis has now won two of its last three league games to stay in the hunt for at least a third place finish. 2-- T-h-e 1 1 Braves beat Vikes for Wat Shield - The Bountiful team capped a sucwrestling High cessful dual meet season Thursday 48-1night by downing Viewmont War the for in the annual Battle Shield. BOUNTIFUL -- EACH YEAR since 1978, the winner of the match between the two schools wins the shield. Bountiful also garnered the round robin title in Region Four, finishing with a 1 record. The Braves earlier defeated Davis, handing the Darts their only league loss this year. 4-- All region wrestlers are now preparing for the Region Tournament, set for Thursday at Viewmont.High School. Winners and other quali fiers will then advance to the state championships at West Jordan next week. 4-- A AMONG THOSE expected to fair well in region competition are, from Woods Cross, Cary Gunther (119), Blake Anderson (145) and Derek Kirkham (155); from Viewmont, Shawn Owen (105), Shawn Gee (112), Chris Soclberg (132), Jeff Struck (155) and Jeff Fisher .(Hwt.); and from Bountiful, Jeff Black (98), Mackay Lucio (107), Matt Johnson (119), Shane Olsen (126), Richard Eggett (145), Ryan Jones(15.5)and Chris Beck(Hwt). Pairings will be decided during a meeting of the region coaches Tuesday night.
