Shortly after that it was Tommy Montano who hit another double who drove Sam in for the winning run. In the 3 victory, Laytons James Kortright pitched a and went the entire nine innings and struck out batters along the way. He walked only three batters during that stretch. - This weekend KAYSVILLE marks another Davis High Track and Field Invitational which gets underway at 2 p.m. this Friday in Kaysville. THIS MEET will attract most, if schools around not all, of the the state of Utah. Both women and men will have their respective tough to go to Box Elder and try to convince our kids that they'ie not going up there for a picnic. The Bees are always tough at home but its tough to see some of their players without their shirts on trying to get a tan and talking to their girlfriends while the game is going on. 4-- events. The host Darts always have done well at this event and Coach Mike Shaw hopes they keep that tradition up. WE SHOULD have got them CLEARFIELD, Hilicrest and but did some things we didn't want to do. Mental mistakes killed us, said Hawkins. Layton collected seven hits against Box Elder which included four doubles and two triples. Laytons Robert Ferneau gets a mouthful of dust but gets back to first base before Clearfield's Ryan Fisher can make tag. 4-- 1 1 THE BOX Elder loss was difficult to take, maybe because of the way things took place in the Box Elder dugcut compared to that of Laytons. Hawkins described it. Its I WAS excited about the kids enthusiasm. On the bench they were cheering for each other and had excitement, continued Hawkins. This week Layton will battle Roy on Tuesday and will come home to take on Bonneville this Friday. Roy was one team Layton will be gunning to beat since they beat up on the Lancers twice last - RIGHT NOW were hitting the people and our defense is coming around. But the thing that kills us are some silly mistakes that I believe well get rid of with more experience under our belts, said Hicks. Clearfield lost a heartbreaking extra winning 3 loss to Layton on Tuesday and then lost the same kind of game to Roy on Friday. In both of those games Clearfield was leading going into the fourth inning. 4-- WEVE GOT aggressive kids going after the ball but weve got to use our heads at the same time, said Hicks. In the Bountiful loss they didn't collect their first hit until the sixth inning when Norton and Todd Snarr began putting things together as far as the hitting went. WE HAD a good talk about the week, said Cullimore, "And I believe we'll get it together this week. This week the Darts will try to get it together against East on Tuesday and Highland on Friday. For the game, Kortright gave up only 4 hits against a good hitting Falcon team. It was indeed a major league showing by the lanky righthander. Im glad he came, said Kortright, He let me pitch my first game ever. James has been working hard from beginning to now, said Hawkins, Maybe the thing I liked the most was his ability to go all nine innings against Clearfield. He definitely got stronger as the game wore on. HAWKINS is happy with the way Kortright is moving his fastball around. The key with James is to get ahead of people because when he gets behind, he tends to start putting it down the middle again, said Hawkins. during the spring time. But no one takes his place on the mound though, thats where Kortright earns his respect. 1 tance for the Falcons, pitching a I WERE A pretty close bunch and maybe a bit more enthusiastic than we were last year. Maybe the reason I threw more strikes than balls last Tuesday against Clearfield was the bet Mike Roberts challenged me with. He owes me a Coke for every strikeout I get and I owe him one for every walk I give up. I only had three walks against Clearfield and had 11 strikeouts. Ive had plenty of free Cikes for awhile, continued Kortright. The only personal goal Ive made for this year, is to win every game that I start in, said Kortright, something that would for sure help Layton challenge for the region title and earn them a ticket to Ken Price in June.
