AUGUST 13, 1980 F smiliar Figure AS Meet Davis Countys New Rodeo Queen County Fair One of the stalwarts of the Davis County Fair is Luella Byram, a South Weber resident who has served as the volunteer chairman of the Home Arts Department for the past ten years. MRS. BYRAMS interest in the fair actually began as a leader 42 years ago. For many years she taught a clothing project to youngsters each summer. Along with it, she began entering some of her handiwork (particularly quilts), candy and 4-- H 4-- H canned goods. Before long, she became a volunteer helper in the Home Arts Department and now she supervises 5 some people in that important womens department of the Davis County Fair. 12. AT THAT time she was also serving as the first attendant to the queen of the Ogden Pioneer Days celebration. Since then, she has gained the title of Miss Rodeo Utah. 30-3- THIS BLONDE blueeyed horsewoman is 21 years old, is a registered nurse at the McKay-De- e Hospital in Ogden, and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Hooper of Hooper, Weber County. The contest this year was open to young women throughout the state of U tah , and 3 competed, with only six of them from Davis County. Miss Hoopers atten- SHE SAID she began working at the fair when Mrs. Mina Flint was the fairs vice president in charge of the womens ex1 and that was in hibits 1955. Now her sub- 1 chairmen are Lucille Stringham, needlework and home handicrafts; Mary Wilson, clothing (new and dants as Davis County Rodeo Queen are Vicki remodeled); and Mrs. MISS VEST also and Bur- band, Kenneth, have been very active members of the n Utah Wool Growers and she is their county representative at the state fair. She has also won many awards at the state fair especially for her candy. And she is constantly encouraging her four sons and 12 grandchildren to participate in the fair. Six of her grandchildren have entered exhibits and won awards already in former Davis County Fairs, bf OTHERS WHO Appearing at the Davis County Fair for the first time this year, will be a group of 100 entertaining youngsters ranging in age from five to twelve years, known as The Young Uns. THEY WILL be presenting their fast-pace- d com- peted in this, one of the largest held in Davis County in recent years, included; To Entertain prog- ram on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 5 p.m. on the grassy area east of the fair office. Their program consists of a variety of popular and patriotic music enhanced by snappy choreography. These talented young people have entertained at Lagoon, Kaysville Herit Kaysville; Jill Thurgood, Kanesville; Merilee Moss, Woods Cross; Carol Too-maWoods Cross; Kathy Miller, Bountiful; and one other girl who was unidentified by the contest chairman, Louise Fielding. Mrs. Fielding was assisted in arrangements for the contest by Mrs. Lauri Sides who is of the events, bf fairs horse Fair-Goe- rs age Days, Layton Riata Days, Miss Davis County and Miss Kaysville Scholarship Pageants, Festival of Trees in the Salt Palace, March of Dimes Telerama, and at various community, church and club activities throughout the state.
