Show VOL. XXIII OCTOBER 14, 1930. NO. 50 News and Features of Interest to Residents of Davis County. LAYTON, DAVIS COUNTY, UTAH I J Only two more days remain in which to register for the general elections on November 7 they are October 17 and October 31. All real citizens who haven't already registered will make a special point to do so on one of these two days. With registration agents conveniently located in each community throughout the county, registering and voting is an important function that requires a minimum of time and effort. A justifiable excuse for negligence in this respect is difficult. I With some major issues clashing head-on- , the coming election is a vital one. An election is a crossroads at which the voter indicates the direction to be taken. The different directions being urged by the opposing candidates are manifest and discernible, however muddied over and distorted they may have become by political haranguing and campaign oratory. It is up to the qualified voters to make certain that the direction chosen is truly representative of the popular will. The individual's first concern is to register and vote himself. However, it doesn't necessarily have to stop here. To appoint yourself your "brother's keeper" in this regard would be both commendable and patriotic. Make the business of registering and I doting a family or neighborhood affair. Call I Your friends and relations on the phone and I' remind them that October 17 and 31 are the V if last two days to register and urge them to vote on November 7. has been suggested that clubs and social groups get together for a registration or voting party on an appropriate evening, and make it a group affair. There's no better time than now to get on the phone and call your club members or acquaintances and arrange for such a gathering on October 17, October 31 or November 7. Civic groups, such as Junior Chambers, Kiwanis, Lions and Rotarians, should find this right down their alley and they couldn't serve their community or their nation betIt 20-3- 0, ter. The Layton Junior Chamber of Commerce is to be complimented upon the program they are conducting to get out the voters. From now until election time this group will publicize the registration dates and the importance of every qualified individual casting his vote. This program of the Lay-to- n Jaycees could well be emulated by other organizations in the county. The right to cast a free vote on November 7 has been purchased in blood and suffering. A bitter payment for this right is currently being made iii Korea. Something that is acquired and retained at so terrible a price, should not be taken lightly nor treated with indifference. REGISTER ON OCTOBER 17 OR 31, AND VOTE ON NOVEMBER 7. OC-.TOBE- R |
