They have asked Dr. James Saunders, recently retired direc- tor of the Davis County Health Department, to address these concerns. Due to the number of questions submitted, the responses will be published in installments. A 1998 review of children's teeth in Newburgh, N. Y. ( the first city in the U.S. with fluoridated water) and Kingston, N.Y. (a city without fluoridation), revealed that in 1986 and again in 1995 that the children in both cities had virtually identical rates of tooth decay. (New York State Dental Journal, Feb. 1998). Similar but larger studies have reseated the same results in Canada, Europe and New Zealand. If there is no benefit, why fluoridate? Children in Ndwburgh and Kingston, New York, have been studied in 1945, 1955, 1986 and 1995 to evaluate the effects of fluoride in preventing tooth decay. Clipper Today Staff Writer - Clearfield Job CLEARFIELD Corps goal is to help students prepare for the work world. The school achieves this goal through its School to Careers System. We create an employable environment for the student from the first dayf said Ron Korth, director of education services at Job Corps. Korth was the featured speaker Thursday at the North Davis Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Clearfield Job Corps works extensively with employers throughout Davis County. The Schools to Careers System consists of three areas: 1. School-base- d learnlearning. 2. Work-base- d 3. ing. Connecting activities. School-base- d learning takes place in the classroom whether it be in the academic or vocational area. Integrated curriculum makes it easier for young people to see relevance between reading and math, and their selected vocation. Project-base- d learning is an inteskills of activity. This means gration students work together in clusters to plan, order, complete and distnbute a product or serv ice from beginning to end. Work-base- d learning is training that takes place in an actual work place setting. This can take place at various stages during a student's stay at Job Corps. In many cases, this student has never even been m a workplace that conducts the kind of work for which he or she was trained. Work-base- d learning includes three linkages. 1. A process of Shadowing watching a person performing his or " her normal job duties. Hands-o- n 2. Mentoring learning strategies and practical application of skills learned. oUif Payments for 90 Days! ?$19,558 21,912 V17,715 Practical hands-o- n end of the trainthe at expenence ing and a possible hire situation. Connecting activities include every other activity that takes place on center involving the school's trainees that would help them achieve the ultimate goal of job placement. These activities include occupational exploration programs that help students with abilities tests, values tests and interest tests. Also offered are guest speakers on campus, an employer involvement committee, quality training luncommittee, cheons, employability luncheons and employer-instructo- r training. Students also learn social skills in Best Employable Skills Training (BEST). This is focus training on how social skills can be used on the job, keeping a job and how to practice those skills for employment advancement. 2000.Subaru t Only M 15,715 200(LSubar 9,942 2 sit SUBARU, OurJtewWeb-site,www.ogdensubanT- th 19,939 c The Beaut' ofiiH4 heel Drive Dear Retain; factor Incentives Ail ?a menrs Pius 'ax C A C asee Sm:r A- - 4 t Q "A Salt Lake Steak & Seafood AY Attention Hunters, Fishermen & Santa Claus PTO fto aiD(MMS3DG33 G339MilraQlEQ0jB25 546-177- No MlOEMETiT tan 52 No. Main Street cavity-produci- zx&rT 3.
