According to Bountiful Postmaster Greg Jones, "I guess well equipment at the intersection of 500 W and 500 South in Bountiful. City officials have worked for several months with the state and UDOT to install new turn signals at one of the busiest intersections in town. The construction contract to build the new 24,500 square-fofacility was given to Herm Hughes and Sons of North Salt Lake. The post office will be built on a 141,000 square-fosite between Main Street and 100 West, and Center Street and 100 South. This site was sold to the Postal Service by ot ot Bountiful Citys Redevelopment Agency (RDA) and is directly across from the historic old Bountiful Tabernacle. Officials at the June RDA board meeting were pleased about the news and expressed high hopes for the expected economic impact the new post office will generate in downtown Bountiful. The RDA paid more than $1 million for the land several years ago. Bountiful sold the property to the Postal Service for $853,000 in February of 1993. see POST OFFICE pg. 3 BOUNTIFUL - Security has been heightened at the Bountiful LDS Temple after vandals spray painted swastikas and other symbols in oiange paint on the walls of one room and other markings in a dressing room Bountiful Police Chief Larry Higgins said security has been beefed up at the construction site, following the June 1 vandalism, According to police, person or persons spray S and a backward C painted the letters E, painted in the west upper hallway. An inverted cross was painted in the stairwell and a scribble and swastilka maihed a wall in a mens locker room. The vandals atbo sprayed a wall in a women's locker room with a.peace symbol, an arrow pointing down and the same initials found in the hallway. Construction managers received an alarm from the temple at 1:30 a.m. and found a skunk had tripped the alarm. The alarm company called again at 4 a.m., but the alarm was attributed to a skunk again.
