Show CLIPPER Friday, October 8, 1993 11 BHSgrad now part of Pittsburgh Symphony By CHERIE HUBER Tatjana Mead, a 1989 graduate of Bountiful High School, has become the youngest and most recent addition to the membership of the Pittsburgh Symphony. After high school she attended Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. In her last year at Curtis, where she studied for three years, Mead played principal viola with the Curtis Orchestra. She also performed as soloist with the orchestra in March, 1993 when they performed "Der Her teacher at Schwanendrcher. Curtis was Joseph De Pasquale. In the spring of 1993 Mead played principal viola with Andre Previn and the Curtis Orchestra at After that Carnegie Hall. performance Previn invited her to the Rising Stars Festival at Caromoor, New York with seven other young musicians from around the country. The group performed with professional musicians in two chamber concerts in April. In May and June Mead was invited to be a substitute with the Pittsburgh Symphony on their South American tour. After the tour she was invited to audition for the vacancy in the viola section of the Pittsburgh Symphony which violinist Young Uc Kim and Martin Dale Williams, principal cellist of the Pittsburgh Symphony. On Wednesday, September 22, Mead performed and was selected unanimously in a nationwide audition to the fourth chair of the viola section of the Pittsburgh Symphony. At 22 she is the youngest member of the Pittsburgh Symphony.. Mead attributes much of her success to the efforts and vision of Michael Bogushavsky of the Utah Symphony who discovered her talent for playing the viola and prepared her for her education at Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. features Loren Mazel as conductor.
