Show Evergreen$ find Davis County homes Christmas free shoppers flock to area lots CLEARFIELD 'Tis the season to buy a Christmas tree. That's what Davis County's approximately ap-proximately 1 8 Christmas tree dealers are banking on anyway. m The paperwork began in early November when area tree dealers bought general business licenses from the cities in which they hoped to sell trees. And now, four weeks after initial sales began, local tree dealers are bracing for a final sales push that ends Christmas Eve. "We always buy a Christmas tree. Our kids wouldn't allow us not to buy one," said Dennis Parker of Centerville. "We like a tree fresh. We like the way it smells. Besides, where else would we put our presents?" i Sandy Richards, of Farmington, said her family decorates a Christmas tree each year "because it's traditional." Richards said her family bought an artificial tree last year for $50. "We've got an artificial tree now so we don't have to hassle anymore. It makes life easier. We don't have to nag dad to get one. Besides, it r lot of money on a Christmas tree. I've seen them for $50. And it's more if you buy them flocked. You have to have one, but not for that much," she said. " It 's a tradition, I guess, ' Wagoner said. "Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a tree. ' Christmas trees in Davis County range in price from about $6 to $50 and above. Christmas tree dealers must obtain ob-tain a $20 to $25 general business license from the the city in which they intend to do business before they are allowed to sell trees. The exception is Centerville, where tree dealers must pay $150 for a solicitor's license. In Kaysville, Christmas tree dealers must pay a $75 cleanup deposit de-posit in order to open a tree lot in the city. gives me $20 more to spend on something else," she said. Jeanette Wagoner, Bountiful, said, "We always buy our tree the first week in December. We enjoy taking the kids and picking out the tree. ' ' Wagoner said she spent $20 on this year's tree. A price which, she says, is too high. "I won't spend over $20 on a tree," she said. "You can spend a ; 4 y X I . -V,- i. .
