Sure it would be nice to win a few more games, but Coach Pete Riehlman and his Wildcats aim to have some fun the rest of the year. Last Monday afternoon, though concerned about Idaho State, the team was loose and getting ready the best way the blow how, to tackle the Big Skys team with the worst record. It appeared as if Ogden was sponsoring a marathon from the Wildcat Stadium to the Dee Events Center as the team Jogged with coaches and all. Idaho State, despite their worst record in the Big Sky, have two of the conference's most potent offense players in Eddie McGill and Greg Smith. The Idaho State mentor, Bud Hake, hopes that these two players will be key factors in keeping his team in the game. Coach Riehlman said Monday at the Wildcat luncheon that he never was as low as he was after the game last Saturday afternoon, in which his team lost to 0-- Boise State, 23-- 7 Ive never felt that low, even in all my 24 years of coaching, said Riehlman. The Wildcat head mentor said his team had problems during the week with injuries but considering what players he had, he felt they played very well. Heading into the Boise State game, Coach Riehlman felt he wasnt goint to start any of the regular four linebackers but ended up starting Otto Ribary, and others. . Even after reinjuring his bad knee, Friday, Otto still played. Riehlman said that Otto was determined to play even with two bad knees and he being a senior this season. Actually Otto played a real fine football game for being as injured as he was, said Riehlman. Huminston has a dislocated finger and playing with onlv one arm has been difficult. BUI Grilz was out all week with a knee injury and saw some action. Danny Rich saw action in six or seven pass plays and Coa Riehlman expects him to be healthy and ready for the Idaho State game. And with Rhodes out, Weber State had five defensive starters out of the line-uI thought with these five starters out and other problems our defensive staff has had, I thought the kids played a very good game, said Riehlman. He felt that way after voicing his opinion that Boise State was the nations No. 1 team in p. Division I AA football. They would be ranked No. 1 if said they were eligible, Riehlman. Eric Hill ran somewhat in the Idaho State game but was still suffering from knee problems and had to be taken out. Riehlman felt that four big plays against Boise State cost them the game, two fumbles, an interception and a missed field goal. Our holder missed the ball 7. WEBER STATE COACH, Pete Riehlman gives special instructions to his quarterback. Bill Kelly during homecoming contest with Boise State last Saturday in Wildcat Stadium. BOISE STATE DEFENDER makes tackle on No. 20 Willie Glasper. Despite the numerous injuries Weber State has suffered the past few weeks, Coach Pete Riehlman was generally pleased with the way the Cats played. The Broncos whipped Weber 23-7. I ifto I and why he missed I dont know. HeU go through several weeks not missing a one, but he just missed that one, said Riehlman. The coach was positive that the field goal could have meant a difference at that point in the game. Weber could have been down only 16-1- 0 and driving for the winning score. Riehlman said QB BUI KeUy was having problems concentrating and said when that happens his team for sure would have problems. He complimented the offensive line who played a fine game. John MitcheU has improved tremendously as. has Tim SmaU. Another is Lawrence Livingston who played very weU for being a freshman. On defense, Mike Nichter had his first start and end up with 18 tackles, two QB jacks, caused a fumble and had one interception. Greg Kramer also played weU for being a fresh- man, said Riehlman after recognizing his team Riehlman thought it would be anyones time to go to Idaho State to see what could to a great kicking contest. The ISU kicker was ranked second in the nation last season and be will go 9Heagainst BUI Kelly. also expected Roger Ruzek to have a great day in the Minidome with his kicking. Dennis McMaster was also recognized for his great game at one defensive corner position. Coach . Riehlman felt Idaho State was having a season very parallel with Webers. He knows that ISU is a good team but they weU worth somehow end up beating themselvees at the end of each game. |
