On the other hand, the river below fleer ( reek Resenoir should provide ood catches of both brown and rainbow. Although high, the wafer will be fishable. Similar to last year, the lower Provo from the dam downstream to Vivian Park is classified as a wild trout stream where only naturally reproduced fish from the stream will be caught. STR AW KERRY RESERVOIR Once again a large opening weekend crowd is expected at this most popular water. A typical Strawberry opening is forecasted. Some fisherman should do very well with rainbow and cutthroat trout ranging up to 2 pounds. Others will do good if they catch a fish or two. Southern Region Southwestern Utah has experienced back to back "good water years" creating favorable conditions for above average fishing, particularly in reservoirs. Following closure because of ehemiral treatments, several of the region's most popular and productive reservoirs will again be open for angling this year, specifically Minersville, Otter Creek and Koosharem reservoirs. Heavy snow melt will make most streams high and tubulent for the opening weekend and the early pari of the 1979 fishing season, delaying storking efforts by several weeks. "Best Bets", by county, will probably be: Minersville Reservoir, average size is 12 inches, three fourths lbs., BEAVER with some fish reaching 19 inches, weighing 1.5 to2.0lbe. GARFIELD Panguitch lake, rainbow trout average 13 inches, 1.0 Ihs. inches, 0.5 lbs. Pressure is uxuully imidrrulc lo heavy, BAKER RESERVOIR Opening weekend success Is hard to predict on that wuter because ot the temperamental nature of the fish which grow here. They often refuse to bite on the opener even though good numbers are found in the pond. This wuter rhuracterislically produces some large fish, with fish between one and two pounds not unusual. As with most reservoirs, opening day pressure Is expected to be heavy. Lim lied ramping is available In unimproved ramping areas adjacent to the reservoir. BOULDER I.AKE8 (North) At the present time all high mountain lakes are expected to be still frozen and no access bcause of the record snow this past winter. It is expected again that there will be a high winter loss. Roads that are open are rough and washed out. BOULDER MOUNTAIN LAKES (South) Most ail Boulder Mountain lakes are not expected to be accessible for the opening weekend It would be wise to plan a trip to thii area later in June or July. A long winter with above average snowfall has left most lakes still frozen with mowdrifts blocking access roads and trails. Heavy winter kill is expected in many lakes. DOWNS RESERVOIR (Lower) See Lower Bow ns Reservoir. BOX CREEK RESERVOIR Is currently inaccessible due to heavy snow last winter. This lake holds mme Grit. If access opens fishing will probably be slow. CHALK CREEK The stream has been running high but dear and should be stocked with rainbows for the opening day. Some rainbow and brown trout should be availble but success will depend on water level which is currently high. COLEMAN RESERVOIR See North Boulder takes summary. CORN CREEK Of the streams in Millard County, this one receives the greatest pressure. Fishing should be good for rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout. Some brown trout in the 7 pound range should be taken the opening weekend. Therond into Corn Creek is deeply rotted and in poor condition to travel by car. Will probably not be planted for opening. Area should COLD SPRINGS provide good camping with fair access after snow melts. Snow water, limited fishing. DEER I.AKE This lake is accessible only by foot or horseback. A U.S. Forest Service campground with good facilities is located at Duck Creek. DUCK CREEK POND Is surrounded by snow but the pond is open and will be stocked with rainbow trout prior to opening dny. This small pond typically has heavy pressure (luring the early season particularly by younger fisherm en . ENTERPRISE RESERVOIRS (Upper and lower ) Fishing at these reservoirs should be excellent this year. The upper reservoir will be open this year after a two year closure following treatment for eradication ot rough fish. Fish should average approximatey one half lb. this year, with the la rge fish Enterprise is noted for not showing in the creel until next year. Both the upper and lower reservoirs are at capacity and are expected to stay that way until Ihe opener. Camping at U.S. Forest Service campground and boat launching facilities are available. This small impoundment has been drained due to a break in the water line between Kings Pasture and the Power Plant. Repairs can't be made until heavy snowdrifts melt to permit access to the break. The Power Plant is not expected to be storked until some time in June. GARRISON RESERVOIR Filling is expected to be fair to good on this water with very few anglers expected to line the banks. KINGS PASTURE RESERVOIR is located 7 miles above the Garkane Power Plant and it is questionable right now whether there will be access availability. If good weather continues to melt snowdrifts, catchables will be planted. All roads into these higher waters will be rough and muddy in spots. KOI AIR RESERVOIR Will probably be inaccessible for the opening weekend this year. Recent reports indicate two (eel of snow in the area and some deeper drifts. Kolob received 6,000 catchables in September of 1978 and about 27,000 fingerling and fry last summer. Deep snow may result in some winter kill . KOOSHAREM RESERVOIR-Sho- uld offer excellent fishing this year with rainbow trout averaging 10 inches and one half lb. Fish range from 8 inches up to 15 inches with bigger fish weighing 1 .5 lbs. LEEDS CREEK Is currently running high and fast and will produce limited fishing lor the early part ol the season. This creek received about 30.000 cutthroat try last year. IAIWER R0WN8 RESERVOIR Is expected to produce good fishing for the opener. It has been stocked with rainbow trout and they should be in the 2 inch class with some bigger fish. Currently it is still frozen over with the ire iust beginning I melt aroond the edges of Ihe lake. The pa vetf road'le aalhg u rsons and campgrounds has not been plowed. Moderate fishing success and excellent camping facilities can be predicted once the snow leaves. NEWCASTLE RESERVOIR Fishing success at Newcastle Reservoir is difficult to forecast this year because of uncertain results from spring gill netting. The few fish taken ranged from I to 1 and three fourths Ihs. in size. The best guess ia that fishing will be poor to fair for rainbow trout of that size, but slower than normal. Water Is again very high which means camping, parking and boat launching will ba crowded. There are no improved camping or boat launching facilities available.
