Show NEW FISH SCREEN Screening trout streams has been a serious problem with fish and game departments of the entire country, but it appears that at last a suitable screen has been put on the market which will do the work efficiently, and confine the trout to the main streams. In states where water has been diverted from the main streams to canals for irrigation purposes, nearly half the trout have been wasted, 'fhe and it is about as foolproof" as any- thing that can be made. This screen was installed at Hamilton, Mont., and Chairman Marlowe, of the Montana i Fish and Game Department, in his official report in The Big Horn, official bulletin of the Montana Fish and Game department, says, "The installation of the Tuckfleld fish screen in the large Daly ditch near Hamilton is working satisfactorily to the great pleasure of the sportsmen of that have a continuous flow of water, without shutting it off, no thought need be given the fish. Where the water is shut off, the screens should be placed as near the main stream as possible in order that the fish may immediately run into the stream; but where the canal is full of water the year round, it would be a good idea to place the screen as far down the canal or to the first irrigating outlet in order to provide an extra fishing stream for the sportsmen. sissippi, according to the plans of the League, recently announced. Tons upon tons of fish have been wasted in such a manner in Utah where the farmers exclusively depend upon irrigation for their crops. This heavy toll has done much to deplete our streams. The more fish the game department plant, the more there are for fertilizer and it is a condition which should be remedied at the earl-- . lest possible moment. If all our streams were properly screened there would be more fish in them than the people could possibly : catch. Tourists would come here for the special purpose of fishing. And while we are speaking of tourists, we should encourage a cheap tourist fish- ing license. In the picture herewith, we present ia screen that has proven a success, and which will prove a boon to the fishing public. G. A.
