We encourage as many boys and girls to compete as want to. This past week saw two of the young Brigham City coaches attend a soccer clinic at Layton High school. The Box Elder Wildlife federation, in connection with the Box Elder School District, has made available packets containing information about the weeks celebration, March and teachers have been reaching all students in the county with the message. Local federation president Wayne A. Jensen said clean and plentiful water is important for wildlife as well as man to survive. These drought-lik- e conditions upon us now make it even more imperative we conserve water and not misuse it in any way. And that means taking care of our wildlife as well as our own needs, said Jensen. this type of experience the program will continue to grow all over the U.S. Keos son has played in international competition and was an Olympic try out. Lynn McMullin and Rondo Harding were our representatives. Theyll make good coaches for our Brigham City kids besides being fine players themselves. Parents, get your children Diinvolved, said Recreation rector Jack Winn. City rec basketball 20-2- . . . . Fisheries Affected Jensen said some fisheries locally would be affected if water conditions became critical and the water utlizied for irrigation and culinary uses.. Fish could be lost and other wildlife affected if this happens. We need to make every drop of water work for us. We must .irrigate our lawns and gardens sparlingly. Farmers can obtain the maximum from the irrigation water and we who live in cities and towns can conserve our culinary water so we dont draw our lakes and reservoirs down to a level critical to fish and wildlife survival, said Jensen. The National Wildlife week observance was used in conjunction with teaching of water conservation in many classes, including the fifth grades at Lincoln school where teachers Harriett Wilkins and Milo Whitaker are concluding studies on the subject. Krista Henage good tournament Girl eager paced Bees Krista Henage, who led the Box Elder girls basketball team to a Region One title and into the state tournament has earned the athlete of the week honor from the Box Elder News and Journal. In the state tournament held recently, she averaged 18 points, six rebounds and six assists a game. She paced the team to a first night win over East and when the Bees almost upset South, losing by two. Krista has selected the University of Utah to attend college where she is in line for an athletic scholarship. She has also lettered in tennis and volleyball for Box Elder. Jensen said we in Utah and particularly Box Elder county, have little fear of the oil spills, chemical plant pollution and other problems of the larger cities in industrialized areas. However, we still must be on the lookout for possible pollution sources in our area and clean up our water wherever we can. Jensen said the local wildlife week observance is part of an effort involving 3.5 million members of the National Wildlife federation. Some 189,000 teachers nation wide participated and 700,000 posters and seven million stickers were distributed. That kind of money is difficult to come by and the best method is halting pollution before it Needed Jensen said an estimated $150 billion would be needed to clean up the nations polluted water. develop comprehensive programs. We want them to know we appreciate this help, said $150 Billion starts. We are pleased to have the Box Elder School District help us with this observance. And another item of interest, noted Whitaker, is that 52 of the teams 69 boys have qualified for the state AAU meet April 16.
