Max Nelson Tis the week of Christmas and all through the town, the people are busy with last minute plans. Theres baking and shopping and parties to attend, the houses fill with excitement as the big day nears. Im sure that most busy of all is Santa Claus, but he has agreed to take time out of his busy schedule and attend the Perry town Christmas party, Friday evening, at the Perry room. school He will arrive at 5:30 p.m. with treats for all, young and old. All residents are invited to attend as a family, and the children will be given an opportunity to put in their final orders to him so they get just what they want for Christmas. The evening is sponsored by members of the Perry City council with Councilman Roger Nelson as chairman. Perry City council met Dec. 14 with all members of the present city council in attendance as well as the new mayor and two city councilmen who will take office in January. multi-purpo- se Welcomed Members Mayor Jay Matthews wel- comed the new members of the council and briefly told of the actions that being taken and that he would like to see com- pleted. He stated that the Provo Technical college had taken the diesel generator that was recently given to the town to make sure it was in top running order. When it is returned, mayor Matthew expressed the desire to see it placed by one of the city wells with proper housing built so that when an emergency arises and the need for the pump it will be ready. He also brought the new councilmen up to date on the progress that had been made on the city bond election preparations. This is to upgrade the city culinary water system. It was reported that word had been received from the Utah Water Resources board that they had approved an application for interest free money to assist in this project. It was reported a mass meeting and then bond election was in the near future. A letter was read from Encore opposing the placing of the proposed overpass in front of the Heritage Theater. A group later met with the council explaining that they were concerned that this would not only detract from the beautiful historical building but would also hide the view of the marquee they hope to build. Spokesman for the group, asked that when a decision to where the overpass would be placed that the group be notified. The council discussed the possibility of relocating it either north or south of the building, with no action being taken as the community has not met back with the council to present their final plans for this project. A letter was also read protesting the dogs on the school grounds. The school board asking the city to help in any way they could, either by licensing or by a leash law. Contacted Council Several people had contacted the council on purchasing a strip of land along the old railroad tracks (along 1200 West). It was discovered that at the time the state deeded this land to the city it was stated that at no time could this land be sold, it was to always remain a part of the city for future roads. Other items of business was the reading and approving the minutes and submitting the bills to be paid by city recorder, Elmer Matthews.
