Show ( I V BOX ELDER JOURNAL, Brigham City, Utah Thursday May, 5, 1977 8 At John Adams park this week There was huffing and puffing and engines met nose to nose To the accompaniment of huffing and puffing, two locomotives met over a section of shiny track at John Adams park Tuesday morning. The engines themselves didnt do the huffing and puffing. That came from city employes who lifted the heavy objects from trucks which had brought them from Corinne. And they werent really locomotives. Built to resemble the original engines which met at Promontory Summit in 1869, the engines are really climbing bars and the section of track is an additional place for children to test their balance and coordination They represent some fine community cooperation. Born in the minds of members of the Ladies Community club as part of their continuing park equipment project, they were made to order by Wilkins Welding in Corinne. City crews then took over: digging holes, loading and unloading the engines, laying the track, pouring cement, and setfor the day ting up guard since the engines are so attractive to area youngsters that they had to be made off limits until the cement hardened. Just as the original meeting of the rails was the fulfillment of a dream, the placing of the engines was a special occasion for members of the Ladies Community club committee headed by JoAnn Butler as chairman and including Karen Hone, Eva Haws and Barbara Holman. The club will sponsor an official dedication of the new playground equipment on Golden Spike day, May 10, at 2:30 p.m. at John Adams park.
