Show Graveyard Talk A fcrewdl was given R. I. FeTrell at the home of the P. B., Sunday afternoon, af-ternoon, where a few friends assembled assem-bled to say how much fineness t they wished him when he landed "over there." The time was spent in tnlV ing about the "cws and the chickens" chick-ens" and other dimple amusements, and how the girls in Arizona ' might compare with some of those in Carr Fork, Delightful refreshments were p I served. C. Countryman presided at i the punch bowl and J. Trelnar acted j ns toastmaster. Games consisted of i chasing "type lice," making "pi," un-1 covering the "hell box," playing with ! "m quads," "sticks," "chases," j "forma." initiating the new "devil' j and speculating about who stole Fer- rells big knife and other valuables ; from the shop while' the editor was I j away. The decorations of old glory, j ! patriotic and oriental colors were par 1 excellence. After refreshments rolled j and ready made cigarettes were light- ed and the sonfe service was by the ; j choir lader. The party consisted of : R. J. Ferrell, A. Baum, J. Treloar, C. , i Countryman and D. McN'eeley, and a ' few others who dropped In without ; ; invitations. .The Herald Republican has been I j granted a divorce from the Telegram, i j We don't know what grounds, but '; I we suppose it was for non-support. ; : . The connubial bliss lasted only a few , I short months when we suppose peas ; i and hominy got scarce on one depart- . ment and then peace and harmony faded away in the other. Anyway, It's 1 r not the Telegrcm-Hernhl Republican any mora. We heard in "alt 'Lake1 some time ago from usually reliable w sources th?t the dfal giving the H.ijj R. to the Telegram was put over all unbeknownst to His Kxcclloncy Sena- ; tor Smoot. and this same fellow sa;d g that the Senator was a big stockhoh) , I er In the II. R. and that he made a i mfglfy effort to queer the deal after it had been consummated and fell w ! down beautifully. Put the wr.y things 1 have faced about for the pa t week p ! makes it look as if he got and tried i ' another drive with better effect. And J there was another thing we heard at j t the same time, and while we cannot I vouch for the veracity thereof, we JJ had it from a Telegram reporter and ' r that thing was that the Telegram was jj t going to support the county admlnls- tration hands down, and that it would not write anything from then on that j might be construed so as to refloct on any county officer, lie thought the Telegram was going to be a powerful J force In county affairs after devouring the H, R. when it was taken into con- J sideratlon that the Tribune was on J the fence and would most likely not I manifest any political activity Bince J It failed to get Parley White's scalp J in the recent campaign. Put now I that the divorce has gon through its J hard to telT where the little paper i with big head lines will stand. J Some wicked person with evil in- S tentions, who had a surplus of empty J whiskey bottles, hid the vile contam- j Iners last week in the automobile be-loneing be-loneing to the iPillar of the Town Hall. When the owner got out his car to take a nice little ride he carefully care-fully dusted his machine and when he raised the cushion he saw more boore bott!s than lazy man would care to count on a hot day. And he was very wroth and made some pointed point-ed remarks as he threw the empties right and left. It is possible that the party who placed tlr? bottles there did so by.ajcldent or mistake and he ought to offer apologies for thus offending of-fending onp who neither tastes nor handles such stuff, The noise made by the motorcycles In this part of town for the pat while hns been something fierce. It seems j that they try to see how big a fuss they can make for fear they will not be noticed. And this is In the silent or hospital district too. Why d'd the patrons nil accuse Bert on Monday of having been on a fishing fish-ing trip? The bleeest puzzle going the rounds In ningham now Is what is the closing hour? There was sure something doing In ' Bingham, Saturday night, but that business was none of ours. America Is the land of performance as well as of promise. |
