Karen Jones, 11 No. Ogden Ryan resigns; new sheriff takes office County Sheriff Ed Ryan submitted his resignation at the Weber County commission meeting Tuesday in Ogden. I feel it to be a privilege to serve the county. I wish all of you the best of luck.. .Its not easy. I leave after putting 20 years in, but it makes me happy to see George Fisher be the man replacing me I have watched him come up as a deputy and I am glad to see that he is the new sheriff, Ryan stated to the commissioners. George Fisher was appointed by the commissioners to be the temporary sheriff until he is sworn in as an elected official in January. I appreciate this early appointment, Fisher said. It will give me time to fit into the job. Among other things discussed, it was noted that Commissioner Ronald C. Sessions served as temporary chairman in the absence of Chairman Doug Hunt. Chairman Hunt was excused due to a special assignment requiring him to travel with the circuit court. The commission approved the expenditure of between $2000 and $2500 for the emergency renovation of the County Ice Rink at the Golden Spike Coliseum. A contract for the installation of telephone equipment on the fifth floor of the Hotel Ben Loman was approved. The County Human Services organization will be occupying the floor beginning in January. Sheriff Ryan, who did not seek this year, is leaving his post early due to medical reasons. His resignation becomes effective today. C. Chairman, Doug Hunt, Com- Weber County mission of Utah has been named member of the National Association of Counties (NACo) Taxation and Finance Steering Committee. The appointment was made by NACo Williams of President Charlotte Genesee County, Mich. NACos 12 steering committees form the policy-makin- g arm of county government. Each committee is composed of approximately 35 county officials who meet during the year to examine issues critical to local government. Their recommendations on county legislative goals are presented to county officials from across the nation at NACo's annual If approved, conference. the recommendations become part of the American County Platform, NACos official policy document. The Taxation and Finance Steering Committee reviews all issues relating to the financial resources of counties. These include federal assistance, county municipal borrowing, revenues, the federal budget, federal grants, and tax reform. This year, the committee will focus primarily on tax reform measures around the country, federal aid reform, and reenactment of general revenue sharing.
