Show WHEN CAN THE BAN BE LIFTED Members of the Board of Health are constantly confronted with tha, question, will the ban be lifted for Christmas? We take this opportunity of stating clearly our position und reasons rea-sons therefor. A definite answer cannot can-not be given at this date, for this Uj-sue, Uj-sue, like so many other important ones of life hangs upon the little "IF". The co-operative effort of ALL THE PEOPLE is perhaps the only force that can remove this little obstacle. The Board is deeply sensative to the claims and rights of the social and business interests; that it means loss, but while is a matter of dollars and -cents, it is also a matter of LIFE AND DEATH. Let us all clear our minds of personal Interests or bias, face the following facts squarely and -make it an objective of community achievement. I 1. A house-to-house canvas or survey sur-vey of Milford, making a liberal allowance al-lowance for the "flu" cases that have . been reported shows that not more than 60 per cent of the people have had the contagion. 2. While the number of cases at present is rapidly decreasing and, in general are in light form, the latest lat-est developments 'indicate that a higher high-er percentage of them are very serious. ser-ious. 3, The Federal Health Commission has warned all State Health Boards that a second epidemic wave is liable to sweep the country and they urere all health authorities to effect even more perfect organization to control its present status and prevent future spread. The present condition of Milford is essentially as follows: Fourteen quarantines have been made during the past week as compared com-pared with twenty-two for the preceding pre-ceding week. Nine of the fourth -came . within the first two days of the week, the balance, only two or three 'of which are really new cases, during the latter part of the week. Fully 75 per cent of all nuara"t'pn have been lifted to date. Health authorities are working for a personal knowledge of the act"M situation in every home in Milford Our "IF" means substantiate I77, by .Christmas, all cases are drying dry-ing in number; IF. there is evie""" that there is truthful. conseieit'o"s reporting of all suspected cae n matter how light, either in one'" ow-home ow-home or his neighbors' TPf n" CAN BE LIFTED FOR CHRISTMAS. ' Otherwise more stringent regulations must be adopted and uncompromisingly uncompromis-ingly enforced. Thinking people can never forget that Spanish Influenza ' is the Grim Reaper that has exacted for one year's toll the lives of over 300,000 American fathers, mothers, sons and daughters, striking very near home to every one of us, or in conservative terms. SEVEN TIMES THE DEATH TOLL OF THE GREAT WORLD WAR FROM AMERICA. That we can. as a result cf intelligent intelli-gent co-operation, lift the ban for Christmas, is the Christmastide Wish-' es of THE MILFORD BOARD OF HEALTH. W. S. s.
