Show SUCH CWAZY PEOPLE ! ! Each session of the Legislature probably of the Legislature in every state there are bills introduced intro-duced that make some folks wonder what the sponsors spon-sors are thinking about. Such as the one introduced Monday to raise the state sales tax to 4 . . . and "neatly solve the legislature's task of balancing the budget." The 4 feature would insure a rough time for the bill . . . thank goodness we still have some legislators legis-lators who think, occasionally, more of cutting expenses ex-penses than of more ways to milk the taxpayer. But when the sponsor wants to tax aspirin if you buy it yourself but if a doctor prescribes it it is tax free ... and if clothing is "ornamental" it's to be taxed but if it's "protective" it's tax free ... and the state tax commission is to decide what clothing is used for "recreation" ... the suit of clothes a salesman wears to shoot pool for "recreation" is to be taxed but when he wears, the same suit to call on a prospective pros-pective customer it's tax free ... we think the bill-writers bill-writers have reached the ultimate in asininity. And there's a bill to take from the taxpaying public and place in the hands of the various school boards the privilege of nominating candidates to represent the taxpaying public on the State Board of Education. Must have been a few slipped in this last election that the state school higher-ups don't like, and they want to make sure it don't happen again. You'd only get to vote on their hand picked candidates. Then there's a bill to change the publication laws regarding amendments to the Constitution. Instead of publishing in a newspaper in each county in the state, so the voters can read the proposed changes in our Constitution before marking their Yesses and Nos, the sponsor wants to publish in just one newspaper news-paper in the state.. The Secretary of State could select se-lect the Beaver Press (circulation 551) or the Eureka Eure-ka Reporter (circulation 403) or the Green River Leader (circulation 420) and publish all proposals for amending the Constitution once each week for four weeks, and that would comply with the proposed pro-posed new law. Evidently the sponsor is going on the theory that the fewest voters possible should know what they're voting on. Such cwazy people! |
