Show WHAT IS A GOOD CITIZEN. By Marilyn Wood Every boy and girl at the age of twenty one becomes a citizen of the United States if he is born of American parents. There are many tasks that he or she must do to become a good citizen. The starting of a good citizen is in the home. By working with others to keep the home clean orderly, peaceful, friendly and a happy in which to live. You can help, plan, think, and work, this will help vou perform your part in the school and the community. com-munity. This is the foundation of your life and citizenship. You can improve your community com-munity citizenship by obeying traffic laws and all the laws of the land. You should take part in religious, civic and cultural cul-tural activities. You should be oourtoous to all nationalities. You should take interest in public pub-lic affairs. You should vote when you are old enough and encourage encour-age others to do the same. A citizen should be interested in local government and the Primary Election. These are very important. It is here you can get the right men on the tickets. Men who are honest and who will uphold the rights of all the people. Before voting a citizen citi-zen should gather facts, attend public meetings and become well Informed on all political issues. When important events happen hap-pen in the state, nation or world, a good citizen keeps well informed in-formed and with the knowledge of the past and present he is more able to plan for the future. When you think of good" citizen; citi-zen; you think of voting, serving on juries and holding public offices, of-fices, of paying taxes, or of the possibility of being drafted into the military service. You think of these as special tasks of a citizen. As it says in the poem, "The Spirit of America", this land isn't made up of the lakes, rivers, cities, factories, mountains or farm lands. What makes this country, IS THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN IT. |
