Show Karl Carlton, Former Beaver Co. Publisher, Dies in California Karl S. Carlton, former publisher publish-er of The Beaver Press and The Milford News, died Oct. 15 in Orange, Calif., where he had been living with his daughter, Fanny S. Carlton. He was 94 years of age. Mr. Carlton was born Feb. 4, 1866, in Shalerville, Ohio, to David Da-vid Dudley and Martha Melinda Sheldon Carlton. He married Cora Emma Pierce March 28, 1889, in Shalerville. She died in 1945. They came to Utah in 1917, and Mr. Carlton purchased the Milford Mil-ford News and Beaver Press. He operated the papers for many years, and was highly respected in the newspaper profession, as well as by his friends and neighbors neigh-bors in Beaver County. He was president of the Utah State Press Association in 1945. He was a life member of the IOOF and assisted in activities of both the Beaver and Milford IOOF Lodges. In 1942 he moved io California and had lived there since. Surviving are two sons and a daughter, David Pierce Carlton, Houston, Texas; Walter Levi Carlton, Provo; and Fanny Sheldon Shel-don Carlton, Orange, Calif; three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Clara Gardener, Clairmont, Ind. Funeral srevices were conducted conduct-ed Oct 18 at Orange, Calif. Interment In-terment was at Gardena, Calif. |
