Show METHODISTS IN UTAH OBSERVE lOOTH BIRTHDAY The United Methodist Church in Utah celebrates it's Centennial Centen-nial this weekend, September 19 and 20. During the celebration, the First Protestant Church i.n Utah will be rededicated, the Corinne United Methodist Church, Built in one month in 1870, it was dedicated for services on September Sep-tember 20, 1870, and has been the scene of protestant activities since that time. The celebration will include the rededication of the Corirme Church, the ordination of two lay-persons into the ministry of the United Methodist Church and a special reinactment of the driving of the "Golden Spike" All this will follow a basket dinner in the Corinne park. Dr. Martin Rist, Professor Emmeritus of Iliff Theological Seminary in Denver, and Historian His-torian for the Church, will speak at a banquet Saturday evening. Dr. Edward Carothers, Executive Ex-ecutive Secretary of the United Unit-ed Methodist Board of Missions wiJ.l be the guest preacher at the Union Worship Service to be held at the Student Union Building of the University of Utah Sunday morning, September Septem-ber 20, at 11:00 a.m. A Centenial book entitled, "The First Century of the Methodist Church in Utah" has been published, as well as commemorative com-memorative plates for the event made available. A represntative of the Cooperative Coop-erative Christian Ministry, and the United Methodist Churches in Southern Utah will attend the celebration. There will be no Worship Service in the Milford Community Com-munity United Methodist Church this Sunday, all members mem-bers being invited to attend the services in Salt Lake City. |
