Telephone Toll Messages Now Free From Federal Tax HpHE federal taxes laid on telephone toll messages by the Revenue Act of 1921 have been removed by the Revenue Act of 1924, which was enacted on June 2, and became effective as regards these taxes on July 2. Under the act of 1921, the taxes imposed on telephone ! messages were as follows: j On a telephone message for which the !! charge was more than fourteen cents and j not more than fifty cents a tax of 5 cents I On a telephone message for vrhich the ! J charge was more than fifty cents, a tax of 10 cents j These taxes were highest in proportion to the charge I; for service for toll messages over moderate distances, the tax in some cases amounting to one-third of the toll charge.
