Fork Pony League Teams Win Tourney Berths : The North Utah County Pony League wrapped up their regular Season games this past week, with American Fork teams providing both half champions. Am. Fork's Athletics won the first half by going undefeated, but faltered during the second half, as the A.F. Orioles captured the crown. Final week's results showed, on July 15, Randy Taylor, team manager, has brought his Orioles along very well, as the Orioles crushed the Athletics 12 to 0. Strong Blake Buhler tossed the shutout, as his team mates jumped on the offerings of Ricky Warenski and Bill Allen for the big win. On July 16, David Walker hurled hurl-ed his team the Am. Fork Reds past the PI. Grove wiants 7-6. 1 July 18: All of the Reds show-id show-id up hitting as they downed the Lindon Twins 16 to 6. Steven -Dean with Dave Walker on the Wll tor the Reds, pitched very well. On July 18, in the season final fin-al scheduled game the Orioles trounced Lehl 8-3. Gary Watkins provided the big blow, a triple to support the pitching of Bryan Miller and Roland Griffin as the Orioles won the second half going away. Four teams including the Athletics Ath-letics and the Orioles will represent rep-resent the League in the Utah Pony League Championships to be held at Spanish Fork on August Aug-ust 6, 7, 8, and 9th. Doyle Smith, a former manager man-ager of the State Champions will direct the Athletics and Randy -Taylor will guide the Orioles '- during the playoffs. Two more teams are yet to be chosen and it is possible more Am. Fork taams have qualified. He is not only idle who does nothing, but he is idle who might be better employed. Shop in your Community WBBA Complete Season Play; Eye Playoffs Western Boy's Baseball team completed their regular season with a limited schedule of contests con-tests last week, with all three leagues busily preparing for the forthcoming playoffs. AMERICAN LEAGUE American Fork's American League will travel to Santa Monica, Mon-ica, California for both the first and second round playoffs. Team managers Bob Brooks and John Bennett have put together a strong entry to represent A. F. in the California series. President El-Wood El-Wood Sorenson with the managers, mana-gers, win head an eleven family group who will depart in a convoy con-voy on the morning of August 5, and motor to California. A. F. will play their first game against the Woodland Hills, California entry on August 7, with the playoffs play-offs continuing through the 8, 9 and 10. Win, lose or draw, fifteen American League All-Stars are excited over the California trip, and officers, parents and many others have worked long hard hours to see this trip fulfilled. BEEHIVE LEAGUE Beehive League wrapped up their season with two contests. The Wasps won over the Bees and the Darts edged past the Hornets Hor-nets in the final. Results have the Wasps and Darts sharing the second sec-ond half of play for the title. Herschel Pedersea and Rulon Carlson head the Beehive All- il ill'1' "Perhaps your clear conscience con-science is nothing more than a poor memory." Stars that will play their first round right here in A. F. The squad is entered in the National Leagues playoffs. Both "Bones" and Rulon are right proud of the strong team emerging from the newest of the three leagues in A. F. and feel that this could be the Beehives strongest All-Star All-Star team to-date. NATIONAL LEAGUE National League: President Paul Steele announced the selection selec-tion of the All -Star team that will represent this fine league. Members on the 1968 squad will be from the Dodgers, Bruce Chip-man, Chip-man, Mark Steele, Ted Davis, Jeff Ingersoll and Mike Hindley. Representing Rep-resenting the Braves are Calvin Mills and Dane Spencer. From the Cards, Kim McDonald, and David DeNumbrun. Giants on the team, Don and John Oldroyd, Tommy Greenwood, Craig Dur-rant, Dur-rant, Scott Marlin and perfect game pitcher Cole Christiansen. Veteran managers Marriner Mitchell and Val Christensen will handle this strong defensive team. Final league games saw the Giants win the League championship cham-pionship with a 13 to 11 decision deci-sion over the Braves, and in the final game the Dodgers finished in great style as they clobbered the Cards 24 to 4. President Steele is hard at work putting together the playoffs sponsored by the National League. Lea-gue. The league will host the first round playoffs on August 1 and 2. Games will have starting start-ing times of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., both dates. All games will be played at the Jaycee Park in Northwest American Fork. WE CARRY ONLY NAME BRANDS Elaborate plans are in the making mak-ing for Alpine's third annual Community Fair, to be held Wednesday, Wed-nesday, July 24. Magnificent Heritage Her-itage is the chosen theme and colorful displays will serve as reminders to everyone of the truly 'magnificent heritage' we each possess in this goodly land. The community day program will be as follows: the Fair displays will open at 12:30 p.m.; childrens games and races at 2:00 p.m.; an outstanding Junior Division Di-vision 4-H horseshow at 3:00 p.m.; the DUP and Fair bake sale at 4:30 p.m.; a baseball game at 6:00 p.m.; an entertaining variety var-iety program and the DUP quilt drawing at 8:30 p.m. and a beautiful beau-tiful fireworks display to end a happy day. The Utah County Broiler Show will be a new feature fea-ture of the day. The Fair exhibits will display a flower show; garden exhibit; needlecraft; home clothing (sewing); (sew-ing); home canning and baking; photography; fine arts; a Junior division of woods and met ai-crafts; ai-crafts; rabbits; pidgeons; a miscellaneous mis-cellaneous novelty display; the Primary girls home-arts display; dis-play; and all 4-H Club exhibits. This day is sponsored by Alpine Al-pine City, the Lions Club, Garden Club, and the DUP's. The co-chairmen co-chairmen are Eldredge Warnick and Jennie Wild, and Corene Bennett, secretary. Duane Bresee Wins NDEA Graduate Study Fellowship Duane Bresee, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Woolsey, of American Amer-ican Fork, was recently awarded an NDEA Graduate Study Fellowship Fellow-ship for the 1968-68 school year. Mr. Bresee recently graduated from Utah State University. His scholarship will be in the area of mental retardation. He will receive $3,400 plus tuition and fees at Utah State University. USU will also receive a support sup-port grant of $2,500 to assist the program in which the student is enrolled. Mr. Bresee is married to the former Dora Jane Peterson, and they art the parents of one daughter. daugh-ter. He graduated from the Lehi High School and served amission for the LDS Church in the Irish-Scottish Irish-Scottish Mission. He was also a member of the Utah National Guard. Lehi unit. &k r Uv !
