Viral byea 3 fr 1 il I ft -v-J I .' .... i.'IV. t Ron Horrocks Jeram Dean Bell Three-year-old dies of cancer Jeram' Dean Bell, age 3, son of Val Dean and Susan Kay Mecham Bell died April 17, 1987 of cancer. He was born May 19, 1983 in Vernal, Utah. He was a very good child and found comfort in loving and receiving love from' his brother and sisters. Members of his family include his parents, one brother and two sisters, Heath Dean, Emily, and Luceena; his grandparents Berle J. and Modena H. Bell of Vernal and Carl and Lucille Mecham, of Huson, Mont., who are presently serving a LDS mission to Kiribati, Gilbert Islands in the Pacific. Funeral services were held Monday, April 20 in the Glines Fifth Ward Chapel. Bishop Larry Searle conducted the services and Clay Mecham gave a family prayer. Kathleen McKeachnie played the prelude and postlude music. A vocal trio, Laura Tilley, Rosalie Mott and Julie Millet, sang "Children of Our Heavenly Father" and "Families Can Be Forever," accompanied ac-companied by Kathleen McKeachnie. Dennis Hoopes gave the invocation followed by Bishop Searle giving an obituary and some remarks. Bishop Gene Anfinson spoke, followed by Rosalie Mott singing, "That Little Boy of Mine," accompanied by Kathlene McKeachnie. Norma Adams then spoke followed by the vocal trio singing, sing-ing, "How Great Thou Art," accompanied accom-panied by McKeachnie. Rick Bell offered of-fered the benediction. Pallbearers were Clay, Grant, Charlie, Joe, John and Bert Mecham. Val Dean Bell offered the dedicatory prayer. The Glines Fifth Ward Relief Society w as in charge of the floral arrangements. ar-rangements. Interment was in the Macser Fairvicw Cemetery under the direction of William Jullcy, funeral director. Vy f 'fl !-f'.-ft in Carmen Caldwell Carmen Caldwell service held in Vernal Carmen Lopez Boughan Caldwell, age 77, died at the Ashley Valley Medical Center April 20, 1987. She was born Aug. 2, 1909 in Torreon, N.M., to Bralio Lopez and Beneranda Lucero. She married Si Boughan Jan. 12, 1927 in Colorado. He died Dec. 3, 1970. Married Horace Caldwell June 3, 1974 in Vernal. He died Feb. 19, 1977. She was a homemaker. Member of Vernal 6th Ward, served as Relief Society visiting teacher, loved crocheting and knitting. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren grand-children and working in her garden taking care of flowers. Past president of Utopia Club, member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Ray Boughan, killed in the Korean War. Survivors include a daughter and son, Mrs. Clifford (Margret) Zufelt of ' Vernal, Silas (Si) Boughan of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren ; one sister, Mrs. Mary Rasmussen of Farmington, N.M. . Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Vernal 6th Ward Chapel. Friends may call Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Thomson's Vernal Mortuary. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park. He was born May 31, 1916 in Bennett, Utah, the son of Joseph and Rosella Broadhead Horrocks. Married Merl Jenkins Nov. 13, 1937 at Duchesne, Utah. The marriage was-later was-later solemnized in the LDS Temple. Ronald was always happy riding his horse. He was an avid gardener and took great pride in his flowers. He loved lov-ed to fish and did a lot of camping with his family. He is survived by his wife Merle of Lapoint, sons Keith, Howard, Glenn, Lewis and Bruce, all of Lapoint; daughters Mrs. Marc (Judy) Corfine of Canoga Park, Calif., Mrs. Lance ( Becky) Hancock of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Von (Marlene) Swain of Cedar City, Utah; 28 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; two brothers, Delbert of Roosevelt and Rodney of Mancos, Colo.; three sisters, Vera Miller of Roosevelt, Alice Perry of Orem and Edna Broadhead of Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers and one great grandchild, grand-child, Emily Boren. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 23 at the Lapoint LDS Chapel at noon. Blayne Morrils drove to Evantson, Wyo., last week to pick up their three oldest grandchilren who are out of school for Easter week and brought them home with them. The children, Melissa, Torrey and Kimberley, are enjoying a good vacation vaca-tion with the Morrills and their other grandparents, the Arvin Bellons. Roger Lee Roberson of Otis Orchard, Or-chard, Wash., son of Roger Roberson, was an overnight visiter with Roger and LaVernia Roberson. Beth Gray and Leah Haslem drove to Pleasant Grove last Wednesday to visit Beth's sisters, Arvilla Hooks and Earlin Walker. After an overnight visit, the four ladies returned to Whiterocks and from there drove to Meeker and Craig, Colo., where they stayed overnight. Cynthia Bagley flew from Salt Lake City last week, first to Germany and then to Johannesburg, South Africa, accompanied by her friend, Linda Sellers. Cynthia called her parents when she arrived and advised them she was going to Capetown to visit friends. Steve and Terry Robb were moved by Steve's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theron Robb, to Provo where Steve is enrolled at BYU, taking third year classes in computer design technology. Steve is working part-time helping to maintain the building where they are living and Terry is at present looking for a job. Jana Dickey, the daughter of John and Cherie Dickey, won the Young Womanhood Recognition award, which is the highest award in the young women's program in the church. President Shirley and Bernice Ainge drove Friday to Salt Lake City to visit Ron Horrocks who is in the hospital. The following day they went through the Salt Lake LDS Temple with Shirley's niece, Tina Emery, and her husband who were sealed in the temple tem-ple and the Ainges returned home Saturday night. 7 sharp shooters to compete at state competition Six BB-gun sharp shooters will be going to Santaquin, Utah April 25 to compete in the Utah Jaycees BB-gun competition. Those winning the local event April 17 were Gary Gardiner, 14; Monica Gardiner, 13; Levi Reed, 8; Jorma Hayes, 10; Stan Padigimus, 12; John Yee, 11; and Steve Labrum, 14. Fifty-nine competed in the local competition at the Utah Power and Light building. Each contestant shoots at 6-inch targets 16 feet away. The event was sponsored by the Vernal Jaycees, with support from UP&L. The Uintah Basin Association of Governments has received a Housing Rehabilitation, FmHACom-munity FmHACom-munity Development grantloan for the Three County Area. The money is to be used for fixing up homes for the elderly, handicapped, low and very low income.
