Show September 27, 1968 THE SIGNPOST Page 9 Political Voice on Campus Projected in Programming Several thousand years ago the philosopher Plato made the i following statement : "The punishment that the wise suffer who refuse to take part in the government is to live under the government of worse men." The college student is in that 'very position today, either he will take part in the government or worse men will govern him. Make no mistake, the college student, his energy and drive, is important to every candidate.Almost eight years ago, President John F. Kennedy challenged this generation to "ask not what your country can do flor you, but ask what you can do for your country." Certainly there is no greater service that the young can do for their country than to work to see that good men are elected to office. Governor George Romney has stated, "Our generation has told you many times that you are the leaders of tomorrow . . . Now it is time our generation accepted the contribution which your generation can make today." If we are Do make that contribution now is the time to act, this is the year to work. Many students want to help the candidate or political party of their choice, but it seems that they lack information as to where to go, what to do, or when to do it. Probe is an idea or rather a bundle of ideas for 50c. David G. Yurth, Editor-in-chief, writes in the introduction that it will "probe the most meaningful parts of life ..." "I had a feeling of being on probation, of having to do things according to rules without knowing what the rules were." Marie H. Nielson. "He stood in the doorway like a slloppy giant, certainly not a defender of the good, nor the wicked destroyer of the masses." Bruce Bothwell. "Dammit, I wish you could -speak to me now. There are some things I need to know." Gordon Sorensen. "Ask someone, ask anyone, but don't take potluck on professors!" Camille Jones quoted by John Hart. Other probes are by Roy L. Weber, John Bluth, Richard L. Brown, Shirley Merritt, William Higley, Dr. T. Leonard Rowley and Mark Twain. Probe is the offspring of two dead WSC literary magazines but divorced from the arty cliche. It claims no simple group but all of WSC. It will outline one of its parents since the second issue is in the planning stage. But if it is to outlive its other parent it will need to probe all the campus and not just a group. Contributions are solicited from those who "write, paint, draw, act, read, or even breathe . . ." Contributions can be in the form of working on the magazine or submitting ideas. A dozen collection boxes will be placed at various campus locations. Mail will be received at Box 63, WSC. Gordon All red, Faculty Advisor, has an office in FA165. JT"!
